THE END IS NEAR!

So, I heard on the news today, that Australia will not be giving loans for any ICE vehicles. Talk about having your face shoved in it.
Also, I heard that BMW charges $18 a month for turning on the heated seats on their EVs.
I see the police hitting a switch to shut your car down in the event of a car chase, or just to pull you over.
The finance company shuts your car down for late payments.
The government doesn't like what you are doing, or who you voted for. So they shut it down.
I think they will attach your car electricity to your home. Which way will the monthly electricity bill go?
The cars of the past were sold as an alternative to a larger car. Now, as with Stellantis, no choice.
The BMW monthly payment is on all their new cars not just EVs. As for them shutting your car down remotely, they can do that it with ICE vehicles as well. My TRX sends me Emails telling me it’s low on fuel or the tire is low. It’s a Brave New World...

Seeing as how I’ve been repairing electric forklifts for 30 years, I can honestly say yes
GMAB - ask the thousands of Tesla owner who will tell ya otherwise and you won't either.. its all locked down. A forklift is a big jump from a Tesla.

thats a bit of a slippery slope.. You were referencing the Dart posted earlier.. I'm sure the Warranty is long gone on that.. and all other B-Bodies. 9/16", Hammer, WD-40, Screwdrivers.. about good to go. No Special permission or unlocking required to run whatever speeds your wallet and skill can afford..

There will be no converts here. Those who are mouthing the blessings of EV are spinning their silent wheels.

Till the EV police show up to pick up my Durango and drop off a tax credit to make me buy one, never going to happen, the most important thing today is, which shirt to wear to lunch..................... Remember Solyndra, a California-based manufacturer of rooftop solar panels. Half a billion dollars of taxpayer money and we ended up holding the bag. That's what happens when a government forced change comes before Capitalism is ready to embrace a proven winner.

My wife and I were watching a TV show last night and saw a commercial for a new SUV. It was really good looking. BUT, it was an EV. She said, Yeah, real pretty, but where are you gonna plug it in? This is rural Vermont, there isn't enough places to charge it in the whole state. They might be fine for big cities and surrounding areas but in the other 80% of America? Not so much.

Agree!! and they come with a standard cord for a standard outlet. The 220 cost more and you'll be responsible to bring that power to the garage.

I'm not so sure EV is really the way the car industry is heading permanently. Dont get me wrong.. they’re gonna be making more.. and teh % on the road will increase from its current 5%. However, if they were truly better they wouldnt need to be legislated into existence or need $7500 rebates to entice buyers... thats the key metric. Demand. They admit as much with Tim saying its like 1972 and we have to play by thier rules... etc.. Although somehow other car companies are managing to keep building ICE.

heck look at cellphones.. those didnt have to be legislated into popularity.. they were just better. Same with streaming TV..

With that metric it seems like they might not truely be ready for primetime.. EVs now are basically early adopter beta testing.. if these things tank, dodge will be scrambling to make something that makes profit.. they are after all a for profit company. Maybe we'll get a reveal like.. 'our engineers figured out how to keep making Hellcats.. so we're bringing them back;...

its happened before.....
Best post in this thread, imho. They can make all of them they want, doesn't mean they won't sit on the lots. Next y'all are in traffic, look around, all you'll see is gigantic SUV vehicles. Hybrids would have been the smart money imho. But the europeans are all sold on EV as the only mode of transportation and since our esteemed leader of Stellantis is French, he thinks that Americans will just shut up and take the medicine he's dishing out. I tend to disagree. I see these things selling to all the beta people and tgen sitting on lots for months til they have to give them away. It'll be like the dart in 17. They stopped production, had to pretty much give them away for a year after they ceased production. There were lots full of them I was told, waiting for transport because dealers didn't want them, they wanted Grand Cherokees and Durangos and Challengers and Chargers.
I guess time will tell who was right and who was wrong.
Oh, and btw, Ohio shut down 2 more coal fired power plants last month or so which was quickly followed by letters sent out saying electric was going from .04 per kWh, up to 10.4 per kWh. Looking forward to our 600 per month electric bills now.

And if you use the 110 only to charge your battery, it will knock about 50% roughly off of the lifespan of it. I believe the new owner's manuals actually list it as the emergency charging cord but I'll have to verify that. It takes so long to charge up the battery to 100% with one if those that the heat it produces damages the cells.

Batteries actually last longer when charged slower over their lifespan

Funny you mention the traffic thing. I’m in Frankfort IL abut 45 miles SW of Chicago, and I’d estimate 2 out of 10 cars I see in traffic locally are Tesla’s. There are already 2 or 3 Rivian pickups around Already as well. I’ve also seen a few Jeep 4xes as well but they don’t stick out like the Tesla and Rivian. Just today I noticed the local Chevy dealer has 4 Teslas in the front row of the lot to bring in customers. Good for me they are leaving more gas for my TRX. But I will have a Charger Banshee in my garage when they start production as well.

I get what you are saying. I know a lot about these things. The 220 charger is the 'slow' charger. The dual 'fast charger' that charges in a 1/4 of the time also damages the battery. It's the heat in the cells produced from charging that does the damage, combined with the repeated chemical reaction needed to produce electricity in each cell. Each time you recharge, you can't get 100% of that cell back to its starting point. It's very gradual but it doesn't last forever.

You summed it up by qualifying "in Chicago". Around where I live I see lots of Teslas, along with ferraris, lambos, porsche, jags, and every gigantic SUV out there. Go a little north or south and you don't see them. It takes a special person to want to own a battery car. It takes someone who only commutes and never wants to drive without considering how far they are going.
And the numbers speak for themselves, less than 5% of total sales are BEV. Hybrids don't count. I'd own a hybrid.

Anything you buy that is no older than smart phone technology is subject to hacks. I love my smart phone, but I also love my 1968 Charger. They exist independently of each other, and I like it that way.

If you want to go Race car to Race car the Ford Cobra 1400 electric drag car runs 8.10s at 170 MPH with 1 MOTOR.
Dart , Cobra, big deal....
Wile E s road sling shot beats them both.
Super Genius.

It’s not really a “special person” a good 75% of the population just wants a daily driver to get to work, the gym and the store. EVs are perfect for them. I’m surprised by the numbers near me as even though I’m close to Chicago I have Farm Fields across from and behind me and it’s 6 miles to the grocery store. To see the amount of EVs in this semi rural environment surprises me. That 5% is growing and so far pretty much untouched by the Big 3 or any of the Euro or Asian imports. That number will be 4 times that by 2026 IMO.

That is surprising but again, you're near chicago where masks and ev's are the norm. When fuel prices come back down, this fervor will die down. I personally don't know anyone who owns an ev, or even a hybrid for that matter. I guess the future will tell all.
