black thumb buttons

This is what I'm lead to believe and my own research.

6PKRTSE -I believe early 69 and older were black buttons. Late 69 thru 70 were chrome. All of my 70 cars are chrome.

From what I've seen, early to mid 69 were black and somewhere in the year there is a change over to Chrome. If it's like other things, the actual switch will vary by plant. My Nov 68 St. Louis car came with black.

we also touched upon the speedometer differences.......sweep style

this was totally new for the 68 model year, but it seems according to a few replies here the 0-15 came into play fairly early....... was the 0-150 only used for a few months? how many could there possibly be? ...... the 0-15 is a much cleaner look, but now I'm digging my 0-150 even more

Any thoughts about four doors being different? The one I have sat for a very long time before the p.o. bought it. It has chrome buttons. Would seem odd that someone felt the need to replace all four buttons years ago, but who knows.

Edit: Just looked at 68-500's four door 440 (in the parting out section) and his also has chrome.

As with lots for things....'research continues'. It very well could be an issue of what year, which plant and what time of year. I doubt 2 door vs 4 door makes a difference but I don't know.

Pic of Fred in his original state, right after being plucked from a field in rural SW Virginia.
He's still got all his as-built gingerbread on and has just been taken to a car wash after
having been gutted somewhat:

A close-up of his original door handle:

Fred's dash, which until I bought the car back in 2011 had never been out of the shell:

In my experience, only very early ‘68s had the billion zero speedo. They are a PITA to read, at speed. Ma Mopar ditched them early. Black buttons seem to be plant dependent. I’ve never owned a St. Louis car with black buttons. No ‘66-‘67 I’ve ever seen had black buttons.

I bought the 0-150 from PG. I had the 0-15. I like all the #’s!

I got it a few years ago. I think it was PG Classic.

It’s just the lense. With the 0-150 on it.

BTW… I’ve noticed sometime in ‘69 there were duplicate names in the lenses for lights, wiper, and maybe wash. I sure didn’t want that.

didnt know they were repopped...... that's disappointing
Yeah. I bought a 0-15 off a guy on eBay. He said it was out of a ‘69 R/T. And that was the first thing I bought, the 0-150.

I’ve logged tens of thousands of miles with each. In the 50-80 range, it’s tough to tell what your speed is, with the early version- those zeroes are really crammed in there! Of course, back in the day we used to drink and drive… I do prefer the cleaner look of the later version, in general.

Here’s the one I have.

And here’s the reproduction lense.

My GTX is a St Louis car with black buttons

This is my understanding. My 69 GTX, Nov 68 STL build date, has black buttons and are original.
