i've been racking my brain all week trying to think of how one would characterize a "male" dog. We all know what term is used to designate a "female" dog (and we try our best not to use it to offend anyone). But what is the corresponding term to describe the sex of the male canine? After some research, I felt just a little ignorant to find the correct term for male dog is simply "dog"!
There are a couple of other specific terms used to describe male dogs using other criteria: If a dog has already become the father of a litter of puppies, the term "sire" is appropriate.
If a male dog holds the enviable position of being utilized for breeding purposes, he may be referred to as a "stud".
I hope this thread helps enlighten someone else today, beside me.
