I used to work at a Chrysler dealer as a lot man and car detailer in the mid-80s.
If a customer bought the top dog Chrysler New Yorker which was basically a"K"car with all the jewelry and hubcaps with spokes you got this "Crystal Key" with the owner's manual. Can you imagine the ladies you would impress or have the valet parking guys fighting over who got to park your fancy K car! :p
Anyway they came uncut so i must have pocketed this one and I just found it going through all my old top drawer stuff.
The key profile matches my 1966 coronet so what do you think should I cut it and use it or hang it from the rear view mirror?

cheers to all

Personally I would hang it, I think it would be a great conversation starter that way

I do remember those, but I never knew a soul who had a K car. Do you know if they came with other Chrysler vehicles?

they only came with the New Yorker and the 5th avenue.
the 5th Ave was a top dressed Dodge Diplomat and was the last of the rear wheel drive cars I believe.
I think that was the last of the police cars for Dodge/Plymouth for years to come.

I thought "Crystal Key" was an upgraded warranty.

You could be right on that! Maybe you had to buy the extended warranty and the rust proofing to get the special key.
When was a young lad back then and used to puff a lot on my lunch hours so my memory may not be that sharp. lol

The crystal keys were also available over the parts counter as a service part. When I worked the parts counter at a C-P store in the mid 90s, I ordered one and my boss at the time cut the key to work on my 73 Satellite. They weren't cheap, but I got an employee discount. I still have that key and occasionally hang it from my rearview mirror when I'm feeling sentimental. The key was more of a novelty than anything. Only a Mopar nutjob such as myself "had to have" in terms of an accessory.

Thanks. My folks had a Dippy 5th Ave for awhile. I must have seen it on their key chain.

Use it is my vote. And yes,
I remember those keys.
I bought my wife a New
Yorker.
The car was easy to drive,
good on gas and
maintenance during an
era of unfamiliarity.
Replaced the head gasket
at 100k.

Put it on a gold chain, hand it around your neck, and let it stick out of your paisley shirt with the wide lapels. Now you can impress the disco queens on the dance floor.
