Finally getting around to putting my 496 back in my RR. What transmission fluid is everyone using? Street Strip car. 4500 stall manual reverse valve body. All new internals. Years ago when I ran it I used Trick Shift but want to know if there is anything better out there.

Thanks!

Synthetic is way better for heat, and with 4500 stall on the street you are making heat.

What rear end gear and rear tire height?

There is no magic in trans fluid. I use dex II/III . 20 yrs of 5500 stall , lap after lap. A decent cooler is your friend.

Been using Type F (in turbo 400s, glides with a transbrake, 727s)for 40 years, don't see a reason to stop now.
Currently using F in the turbo 400 behind a 540 with 4.10s, and in a 727 behind a 500 hp 440, with a reverse manual valve body, and a 4500 converter, with 3.91s.
Both street/strip driven.

A friend has a super comp dragster. Was fine with any fluid.

Then he got a 632 inch engine. It would bake the fluid in a few passes so he talked to the others, changed to synthetic, it lasts all year now. But that's 5500 on the trans brake.

I use nothing but Type F. Zero issues.

Yep, for a 1200hp motor, you might need something better.... but for my nine second n/a small block with a brake, stalling 5500, type F worked just fine. I did have a good cooler. Anybody with a brake would.

Put a good cooler on it
seperate from the radiator, fan assisted if you fit it
cooler the better, type F or type III

I've ran Redline Type III semi synthetic for years in my racecars
(at 1st I was comped it by suppliers)
I switched over to Torco full synthetics, (full sponsorship too)
performed the best of any oil or fluids I ever used, hands down
it ain't cheap but neither is a good race trans
semi synthetic it still cooks, even with a great cooler
but can go most a full race without cooking it too bad
even with a 7.5"-8" 6,000 stall speed

I was probably a bit over your power level, but it's a hydraulic pump
smaller converter heats up faster,
9.5" 4,200-4,500, 9" 5,000, 8.5" 5,500, 7.5"- 8" 6,000+ stall
didn't make **** of difference they all cooked if you 'hot lap'
especially with a trans-brake

I drove several of them on the street too, 4.88:1 - 5.13:1 gears & 15x15x33" slicks
the Derale works, they never sponsored me I still used them religously
I also had a heatsink inline on the other side
even with my Lenco's or Jeffco's or a Bruno-drive same deal,
anything with planetary gears & hydraulic fluid needs to be kept cool

Derale cooler with fans 10amp draw, like $159+ (sure thyue went up some) at Summit Racing
Transmission Derale Electricool Trans Cooler & cooler Dual fan assist.jpg

like this one from Summit racing for like $59
Transmission Derale Heat Sink Trans cooler der-13249_w $57.95 Summit Racing.jpg
