When my divorce started I sold my .22 bolt action rifle and all my .22's including a couple of nearly full boxes of caps and now I can't find any....locally or on line. I now have another bolt action .22 rifle and would like to find a source for the caps. Anyone else use them and know of a store that sells them and can ship to me? Don't confuse these with the .22 CB's as the caps are slower and way quieter to the point that you can hear the bullet hitting the target. Heck, you can hear the action of the rifle too over the sound of the .22cap firing.

There are CB caps and BB caps. I think the BBs are the slower ones.

I use the CB caps on ground hogs, but a box goes a long way with a single shot in town. Been so long since I bought them I’m sure the place is out of business by now.

Cranky those CCI rounds are a very good buy even at that slightly higher price than some conventional .22 rimfire manufacturers. I personally shoot CCI in all my .22s and 22 Magnums...cr8crshr/Bill:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:

I have lots of CB's.....too loud for 'in town' usage. If I plink here at home, I have to make sure one neighbor is at work and I let the other neighbor know what I'm doing lol but rather have the slower and quieter 'caps' to plink with.

I have CCI ammo and don't mind using it at all.....just can't find the low FPS .22.....lower than the CB's are.

We can pretty much buy anything here. I can check if you like. I shoot my Ruger allot but have not tried those.

I see your Pasadena, I was born there since it was the closest hospital to LaPorte back then.

Sure! I would appreciate that. The local store that I buy much of my ammo from says I can put in an order on their web site and if I buy enough, I will probably get them but so far, I can't find how to do that on their site. One person says that the caps are a low volume seller so they don't stock them and another person at the store says he orders them all the time but none ever come in. Who knows what's going on these days.....?

.17 HMR is a .22 mag necked down to a .17 bullet fast little cartridge that is capable of 200 yards.
I am a huge rimfire fan, but I have never shot a .22 cap

I've heard of shorts, long,
long rifle, and magnum
when it comes to the .22
cal. Are shorts what you're
refering to?
Also, the .17 has gained
popularity in match shooting
and has quite a following.
Fast moving, extremely
accurate round. Used here
as a popular ground hog
control measure to test
one's shooting skills.

I've shot a 17hmr and it was fun, the accuracy is amazing. I won't buy one though for the simple reason that the 10/22 competition ruger i have works just as well for me.

never shot a .17 before

I do have a Ruger 22 rifle and a Baretta 22 bull Barrel pistol

.17 HMR is a tiny little .17" diameter, 17 grain bullet with a muzzle velocity of 2,550 fps. If you hit a Nutria with one it will blow it's intestines right out it's back.

The only thing more fun than a .17 HMR is my .17 centerfire! I need to try and find me some of those caps. I wonder how they work on pigeons?

Yup....same size as a short. The 'caps' ain't supposed to have any additional powder so it's just the primer that's propelling the bullet....so I'm told. They are supper quiet and if you shoot a 55 gallon drum with one, it'll put a pretty good dent in it but won't pierce it and the sound of the bullet hitting the drum is a lot louder than the sound is from the rifle firing it.

They will put a good size dent in a 55 gallon drum so I would think it would pierce a pigeon. I used to go after stray cats with using a .357 but the rounds were loaded with wax. Have to use way less powder or the wax would vaporize but once we got the powder right, a side shot would make a cat jump a good 5 feet upwards and usually that would make them stay away.
