The Entire Town of Ruidoso NM Evacuated

Thanks, Ed.
We've taken in the son's
girlfriends' family. Her
brother lost his house and
just about everything else
he owns, short of their car
and clothes.
I haven't been able to
contact three other friends
I know up there. Hopefully
they've been able to find
some sort of sanctuary.
The only way out of there
is to head east towards
Roswell.

That looks huge....stay safe and help those you can.

My wife and I were supposed to go there in October. I hope the fires somehow manage to not level the town. Good luck to all in harms way

You're still welcome as far
as I'm concerned. Thanks
for the well wishes. I'm
sure the town will recover,
but the scenery may not
be what you'd expect.
Please don't put your plans
off just yet.

Over 20,000 acres of wildfire is just a staggering number. Can't get my head around that.
I've seen 1500-2000 acre fires and they seemed gargantuan...
This is TEN TIMES those!
I wonder what the Forestry folks were/are doing with this? They have most of the wildfire
fighting equipment in the country over there in/near California, so I'd think they could have
mounted an attack at some point?

I worked for PNM Albuq.
for 8 years. In that time
there were many calls
for help. Hurricanes mostly.
They didn't hesitate to
offer help.
Different times.

We have friends that own a resort in Ruidoso. They evacuated and now can do nothing but wait. That has to be terrible for them and all those who are affected.

Yes that's huge, Prayers for all the folks that live in the area.

It's up to 25,500 acres now,
with over 1400 structures
burned.
I was able to contact my
missing friends.
One person has died as a
result of these fires.
Residents are under "go"
orders whuch means they're
not allowed to pack anything
or round up any animals.
It's get in your car, and get
the hell out of there.
Leave everything behind.
The friends I had lost
contact with have lost
everything they own.
But, very thankful they're
still breathing.

Man, when you think you have a problem, just think of all their problems and losses. That's absolutely terrible.

Conditions couldn't have
been more perfect for this
disaster. Northeast winds
put Ruidoso smack dab in
the middle.
The Forest Service has
been slow to react.
Enlisting only one tanker
and one helicopter.

Hope they don't suffer like a few places rurally here,
did a couple years back, whole town burned to the ground
Paradise was one, the Rim Fire was a bad one too in Yosemite too
seems they burn every year or every other year

smoke makes it nasty

Anyway for NM that sucks, stay safe

Day before yesterday down in Calaveras County,
next co. west down the hill from Tuolumne Co.
here they have a fire near Copperopolis called the "Aero Fire"
started as a grass fire, 3000+ evacuated, in the path
they had 60mph wind gusts
today not as bad wind wise
but another 5,000 people/homes still without power

no doubt human started or powerlines etc.

CalFire got it handled somewhat, mostly contained,
But;
it looks like they are letting the grass burn to me,
when they showed it on TV, mostly open country (like ranchland)
with a few conifers & oak trees scattered about
Supposedly as of last evening no structures/homes "were destroyed"
what ever that means, 'just charred' a lil' baked paint & decks I guess,
Calaveras Co. Sherrif said;
few hundreds of the evacuated people can go back home,
as of this AM...
All kinds of shelters were opened up for families & those with pets
&/or livestock too...
Rural Calif. people take care of each other, nothing like the shitty's

That sucks to know people lost everything... It puts things in perspective when something minor goes wrong in your day and it seems like a big deal... THIS is a big deal. Prayers to all involved especially the ones trying to escape and the ones going in to put that monster out.
