Looking to purchase a 68 charger and the dealer claims it’s matching numbers. So far I’ve only been provided one numbers attached. My understanding from what I can read here is that for the 68 383, if it's a low performance 383, the dates stamped on the front of the below the passenger's side cylinder head. If high performance 383, a full or partial V.I.N. is stamped on the engine block or stamped on the top rear of the block near the oil sending unit. For the For 1968 auto transmission, a full of partial V.I.N. is stamped on the transmission case or on the top front of the case where it meets the engine.

Does all this track? They are having trouble finding actual vin numbers. Any support appreciated. Thank you all.

The order number and the numbers on the trunk gutter match. That number should also be on the upper radiator support. Partial VIN numbers will be stamped on the back of the block where the oil pressure sender is. If it’s an automatic, the same numbers will be stamped on the transmission adjacent to the ones on the block.

Yes you are correct. Being that's a 2bbl car, likely no engine vin, but yes it's up on the bellhousing.
Very funny they state numbers match but can't find the numbers

probably 290hp 2 bbl, column shift 727tf auto (I didn't decode nothing)
numbers on the back of the block on-top, near the trans mounted up

Totally understand and appreciate. I’ll head over there and introduce. I was willing to risk public shaming for quick answers in this lol. This car has been my unicorn
