No oil pressure on start up after oil change.

Can someone explain to me how the filter is to blame for the pump not priming?

Exactly what is malfunctioning in the filter?

If you removed the filter completely, would the pump not pump oil?

Here's an interesting excerpt from a similar story.

First off I am sure that WIX makes a great filter. So sure I put them on both my Cruisers. With that being said a faulty 51515 roached my 1FZ.

snip

Luckily I had kept it and all its contents because when he looked at it he discovered the bypass valve had not been installed like it should have been in my filter. He said he believed I got an oil pressure surge from the valve sticking open in my oil pan and since the filter had no bypass valve to help keep the drain back valve from being loose it dislodged and blocked off the filter totally.

If you're using a WIX oil filter read this

19 page thread, were there any conclusions?

In the last year, Summit no longer carries the Wix filter. Strange that they would drop it.
I think they sell the race version that is marketed by Driven. I don’t get a warm fuzzy about it since the origin is a little cloudy.
My last couple of oil changes I used a KN filter. I buy them at Summit, even though they say it doesn’t fit, KN says it does. No problems so far.

I had this happen on my 383 recently. The engine had a full rebuild and I was changing out the break in oil. Put in new Penn Grade oil and WIX filter and once the engine started, no pressure and lots of upper end clatter. I shut off the engine and checked to be sure I didn't have a catastrophic leak - there was none. So, I turned the key and the engine started right up with full pressure.

I've owned many mopars over the years and have never had this happen. I guess with my next change I'll try saturating the filter in oil before installing.

Had that happen to me. Took off oil filter and screwed around for half hour or so. Filled filter half full put it on fired it up no oil pressure. Had to remove pump and white lube it. Now no screwing around once filter comes off.

See post 18 in this thread.
Yes, I understand, BUT pouring a little oil in a filter is not "filling it". You can't fill a filter on a BB Mopar. And I haven't done so in 55 years. Not sure what difference that would make anyway.

Curious if this bad Wix has "made in USA" stamped on it, or is it from somewhere overseas? I haven't gotten any overseas made 51515's yet, but heard rumors that might be coming.

I guess it translates to USA. Why does that seem strange to me?

Fabrique is French. Hecho is Spanish. The E.U. signifies Estados Unidos, which is United States. So, the label indicates "Made in US" in English, French, and Spanish. ( And here, all you guys thought I only remember the vulgar language from high school ! )

They do say the long term memory hangs in!

I would think the oil pump relief valve was sticking and not the filter.

For those that believe that the filter is the cause for the OP's problem, can you please answer these questions as to why? Thanks

Filter would have to be blocked inside.. allowing no air to exit, as the oil goes from sump to pump, into outside of the filter then to the engine through the middle of the filter.
