Are these capable tires for everyday driving or really still drag radials with a little more tread in the event you get caught in the rain going to/from the track or a drag/drive event?

I'm trying to find 17" tires for my Charger because I really prefer more sidewall than 18's give. But there are very few wider tires with diameter of 27-28", which is what I want. There's a 275/50 Nitto and then there's some DR's and then these ET Street S/S in a 305/45/17.

And yes, I do want to move from 15" tires. I've put on Bilsteins, aftermarket torsion bars, and want to do the borgeson ps box. I want more from the tires than 15's can do, at 28" diameter at least.

Don't think a drag tire will work in well the rain, they won't. You will need to drive very carefully with them on your car.

They are legal, that's all. They are not a well rounded all season tire.

I've got nittos that I was caught in a rain with once. Hydroplaning comes quick. If the road is wet they're ok. If its actively raining you need to get to a safe spot and wait it out. I drove out of it quick but a moderate rain at 45mph I could tell I was on the edge of losing traction.

I run the radial pros on the street even so they say they're not dot legal. But even if I had all season radials on the car, I still wouldn't drive it in the rain.

I also run radial pros on the street for all fair weather driving. I usually try not to get caught in the rain.

Back when I had Hoosier street slicks, I did not want to exceed 35 MPH in the rain.

275/55x17s? Kumho, Nitto , and General make em in that size. 28 1/2+ inches tall, 11 something section. The nittos don't look like suv tires (Tho that's pretty much what they are).
If you're looking for a normal driving experience, I don't think you'll be happy with any sort of drag radial. Unless you are driving a 600 hp car to in-n-out.
(Coming from another guy with et street pro's on his in-n-out car.)

275's may be the only choice but I'd really prefer wider. Don't like the 18's on my brother's car. And a pure DR isn't going to work well either, you're right.

How much room for width have you got? Toyo makes a proxes 345/40x17. Almost 28 tall, 14" section.NOT an suv tire. It would need a 12" rim.
305/45x17s are also available.... but all three brands I found in that size are drag radials.

Yup 305's are all DR's that I found.
The car is mini tubbed but springs haven't been moved in. I'll have to measure for that 345. I'd love the look tho!
I was going to buy the 17" magnums on sale at Holley but 9" is as wide as they go.

Well, if the backspace is right for the 9-inchers, (somewhere around 5") the 275s will work good on that width.
345s would fall on my car, but even a 315/65 is a huge tire for a car that hasn't had the springs moved and mini-tubbed at the very least.

Mine is mini-tubbed and moved inboard to the frame rails with 315's and plenty of room all the way around. However, we narrowed the rear axle so that it was as close to the outer wheel lip as possible. I like that loom better. I don't like when tires are tucked too far inward. The wheel well is untouched and still factory.

Yes the backspacing is good and either a 275 or 295 would be ok on them, but no tire in that size.

I run the 30x10.5s on the street.. they are real... My car will never see rain though.. if it does i'll be doing 10mph tops

I measured, I have 13" of room best I can tell. 345's would be a no go. The current 275/60/15's are on 8.5" torque thrusts with only 3" backspace it seems. On a big bump they will rub a little on the weird inner fender bump out that chargers have. 2" of space to the leaf springs with this setup.

If you have 275s now, on 8.5s (really 9,5 wide), and you have two inches to the spring, ( and 3" backspace?!? Really? I'd measure to make SURE of what you have now!), anything from 4" to 4.5" backspace on the 17x9 will be an improvement.

Yes that's what it is. These rims were not bought for this car, just had them in the shop.
