Went to pick up some parts for a buddy, was driving home and a big truck going the opposite way fired a sizeable rock off a tire and just middled the windshield. GRRR...

It does suck, but it could always of been worst. Could have hit on the leading edge of the roof or front of the hood, still sucks though.

Had that happen to me in my 70 Charger R/T, but it was kids throwing snowballs with rocks it them. I locked up the brakes jumped out and caught one of the little bastards. I was eighteen at the time, I stuffed his dorky face in the snowbank until he cried and ran home! The windshield is still cracked, since 1982.

Not that I like exposing my cars to risk but if you are gonna drive them there's always a risk... Actually there's risk even when they are hidden away.... It's a shame your windshield got taken out but look at the bright side, it's just the windshield... Get out there & go for a drive...

I have a buddy with a 70 Cuda 440-4spd... He took a rock to the windshield probably 14-15 years ago, hasn't driven the car since... WTH???

Sorry to see that. I Had that happen to me many years ago in my 64 Dodge going to the track and only chipped it.. My truck on the other hand had one like that come out from between the 2 rear tires on a dump truck going 65… I actually ducked!! Got his plate and turned it into insurance and they did nothing cause so many people were lying picking random trucks to pay for their damaged windshields… My insurance paid for it and it cost me nothing..

I hate that. I do a windshield a year here in Az.

Because they landscape the freeways with ROCK.

Yeah, I think it sucked more due to the size of the rock and that extremely loud "THWACK" on the glass almost made me shat myself.

Have got a claim started with Hagerty. Adjuster should call tomorrow or the next day.

I sure now have the perfect excuse to replace the dilapidated windshield wipers, not that she sees much rain.

I don't think it's as bad as it's all cracked up to be. (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Like stated, at least it didn't skip across the hood or dent the roof line. Theres always a chance of getting glass in your eyes also when that happens.

I had one rock from a logging truck, when they still did logging up here
he was going down to the mill, I was going up the hill, windy road
a rock to the right in front of me, sort of towards the outer edge of my windshield
like 6" in, at the time, it seemed like right at my face when it happened,
shocked the living crap out of me... Like really loud, like getting shot at...
I think I swerved, crazy shocked reaction to it, almost wreck it in the ditch...
I was in my 1999 Dakota SLT 4x4, going like 45+, he was probably doing
the same going down the hill it was just a slight sort of deep nick/less than 1" crack...
I didn't want it to spread...
I called Safelite Autoglass, see if I needed a new windshield
he was a cool guy, a total car guy came out
(he had a nice 67 Chevell 396-SS, showed me photos, we BS'd about cars & my RR etc.)
& he repaired it no cost to me, he stayed for a while,
& not even any charge (by either them or my AAA Ins.), it was std procedure
no paper work nothing, not even a bill for/from my deductible/comprehensive insurance...
Gave them my AAA Ins. info, I never saw anything after, no bill no nothing...
Like 30 min.s at most, like 15 years ago, repair still looks great...

Sorry to read this. I’ve had this happen more than once, trucks with mud and rocks on their trailer beds falling off onto the road bouncing into the windshield or grille. Another was a freshly loaded dump having rocks on the top of the box edges. I’m cautious to keep way back though this time the dump was in the oncoming lane. in your case good thing it didn’t hit your hood or roof, yes still a bitch.

May not ease your peeve, but my last run in was with a flying wild turkey, never saw one fly before and found firsthand they don’t do it well. On-coming semi was just about to smack it and it takes flight into my car, OH console was launched into pieces, part of the window broke free, and damn, it hit the roofline making for a two-week visit at the body shop. I had the car back from the body shop only 2-weeks after hitting a deer.
Could be worse, and then much better if this didn’t happen!
