Looking for recommendations for best flowing / sounding muffler for a 383 B-Body with 2.5” full exhaust? I don’t care for the stock motor open header sound and have to have the ability to tune at home (neighbors ) so full exhaust is going back on my Charger.

I hear good things about Dynomax? Flowmaster too. I threw my Summit exhaust kit back on but figured I’d upgrade the 2-chamber mufflers it comes with. Any good resources to listen/view outside of the manufacture site and YouTube? I’m seeking the classic muscle car sound with some bite when wide open during racing.

Thanks in advance. Mid-13’s with my ‘68 Charger nicknamed “Project 68.”

Dynomax ultra flows are very hard to beat.
Good sound, good horsepower, not too loud.
I have 3"magnaflows on one of my cars. Nice long case, good flow, quiet-ish.
Jones makes several very inexpensive stainless mufflers, available at summit.

Flowmaster should be called Flowless.....
Jim Hand tested a large number of 2.5" mufflers in his Pontiac book. Compared to an open pipe, FM were below 60%. Dynomax Ultra flow was 99% & Dynomax Welded Ultra Flow was 101%.

I had to change to a chambered muffler from the ultra flows. They were great but I do like the the Hooker ultraflows

I just switched to Hooker Ma-flows and am pretty happy with them... i also added some resonators in my tailpipes to quiet it a bit more (3" out the back) and am pretty happy with it now..

What resonators did you go with? What is the outside diameter?

To the OP - at your power level, you have a lot of options. If sound is a key criteria, I’m not sure I can help much. The right sound is truly a personal choice/opinion.

On the quieter side, you can run the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. I ran the 2 1/4” long body version (17747?) in my car. I Ran 12.8s @ 109 mph in my 4200 lb Charger with them.

Hooker maxflows won a 1000hp muffler shootout on engine masters. Forgot about them.
I had hooker aeros on this car. Sounded good, ran good. They were the cheapest 3.5 in/out I could find at the time. Never ran it uncorked.

Engine masters episodes on this, have a view
Wow thanks for this reference. Great episode, never saw this one. Glad I went 2.5” as my hunch suspected there wasn’t a big difference. They reveal the answer. Spend the money on the good flowing mufflers!

I wish i had gone 2.5".. i went 3" cause i'm a 16 year old at heart and it's just too loud

you can get them in many sizes & configurations stainless steel
not very expensive either last I saw
FlowX by Flowmasters
straight thru welded design, not just crimped like others
well sort of, it's a slight bent from end to end, see thru with an offset enter & exit

like $69 at Summit Racing, sounds great too, a lil' throaty but not too loud
especially if you use tail pipes out the rear
no drones either, if using the proper sized pipes

Exhaust Flowmasters FlowFX Mufflers 3 in. stainless steel stright thru offset flo-71229 $53.96.jpg
