The grommet in the brake vacuum booster fell apart. Probably from old age. I have never seen the insides of a vacuum booster. Whatever is in there, now has a piece of the rubber grommet. I wrapped the nylon part, attached to the hose, and bunged it in place. Do these vacuum boosters need replacing? I have a new master cylinder, and all the wheel parts of the brakes. Brake lines are on the list of things to do. I will test drive the Tukvan tomorrow. Should be okay.

Has a large rubber diaphram. Unbolt it and shake te piece out of th ehole.

Thank you Doug.
Just did that. Brake lines were flexible enough to move the master cylinder out of the way. Fluid came out of the vacuum booster. Likely stale brake fluid. About one quarter cup.
Fished the rubber part out, and David arrived with a new grommet. Came in a kit. Dorman 80189. Put some of everyones favourite goop on the grommet, and bunged it in place. Fired up the mighty 318 and checked the brakes. All good. Tomorrow morning we leave for Kissinger Lake which is at the top end of Lake Cowichan.
