Just bought a 5th wheel.....uh, for the spare tire. Question about the air pressure sensor.

The new/used wheel came with the air pressure sensor and I'm wondering if it will work with the vehicle's computer. The wheel is for a 22 Chevy Colorado. The original spare didn't have one since it's just a steely and the truck has the upgraded aluminum wheels on the ground.

Not a clue. Some of the bike riders use fancy remote sensors.
I use a kneeling pad and a pressure gauge.

I guess it depends what frequency the new monitors run at vs what frequency the truck can pick up

I bought a matching spare wheel and tire for my '15 Jeep Renegade off ebay because it didn't come with a spare...

...and the sensor worked just fine.

The system on that car doesn't need any "programming" and even "knows" what corner of the vehicle any given sensor is on without any programming, including the one that didn't come with the vehicle.

This is contrary to almost everything I've read on the internet about TPMS.

Your mileage probably will vary.

Throw the spare on and see if it throws a code.
I doubt it will read the pressure in stowage.

Some GM vehicles do require "re-learning", some don't. I believe yours does not.

I changed one on my 11 Challenger and it self learned. After about 10 minutes driving the pressure appeared and has worked ever since. Several GMs have to be programmed with a scanner, and I think a 22 Colorado is one that requires it.

The relearn procedure is as follows: Ensure all tires are properly inflated Turn the ignition to the “On” position without starting the engine Using the Driver Information Center (DIC) controls on the steering wheel, navigate to the tire pressure screen Press and hold the check mark button until you hear a horn chirp (about 3 seconds) The DIC will display “TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE” Starting with the left front tire, use a TPMS relearn tool to activate the sensor When the horn chirps, move to the right front tire and repeat the process Continue with the right rear and left rear tires After the last tire, the horn will chirp twice to indicate the relearn process is complete It’s important to note that for the 2015-2023 Colorado, a special TPMS relearn tool is required to activate the sensors.

Had a flat last week and the spare doesn't have a sensor but when it's on the vehicle, it just says to check it. I'll find out soon if whatever tire becomes the spare will interfere with the system. Mainly wanted to be able to rotate the nearly brand new spare instead of letting it rot underneath the truck.
