I've read through a few posts that cover (Somewhat) what I am trying to figure out. Carb suggestion request

Aluminum rods? Probably not the best choice for a mild build street engine.

Carb choice is really a personal one. I prefer the 4160 Holley 750 (vacuum secondary and electric choke). I seem to be able to set those up the best.

I just put an Edelbrock RVS 750 double pumper on my 383 and I'm really impressed on how well it ran straight out of the box and for a "race" style carb with no choke, street driving is really really nice. Zero hesitation on transition and I havent done anything except set the idle mixture screws and float levels. These carbs are very very nice. Look them up, they are not talked about much. Throw the Holleys aside, this is the carb of the future.

My motor is a about the same as yours, but with less cam and less compression.

950 double pumper on a single plane. You can tell it’s too much.

Thanks for the reply. 1973 Charger so power brakes. I am not so worried about the top end as I am looking for crisp throttle response and tuneability. Thoughts on the Edelbrock carbs? I had a carter 625 competition series carb on my 383 and it was a dream to adjust. Just thinking it is too small for this application.
They do make a 750 Competition Series Edelbrock (Carter) carb, fyi

I'm sure it's a fine carb for certain purposes, but it's just a copy of a Holley.... and running a no-choke double pumper carb on a street car is not the future. That is the past.

I run two 750 edelbrocks on my 65 dodge. No hiccups, stumbles, etc. I love "too much cfm"; it pegs the fun meter. My other car is a stock 440; definitely cfm challenged.

I like Edelbrock carbs. They are easy to tune and will run good out of the box. If you need to change jets and rods, pop the top off and replace. No gas spillage. They tend to idle rich from my experience. The AVS2 has annular booaters to help with throttle response.

The two 750's i bought earlier this year did need work as they came out of the box. Float settings were way off. The carb i use as a primary had the primary throttle blades in crooked. A novice would have never figured that out. The jets looked like some monkey with a screw driver installed them. Quality on these carbs has slipped. Once those issues were addressed it's been smooth sailing.

What carb?

I live in the past every day. I like it there. From 1984 to 2019 , I drove exclusively 60s-70s cars. Mostly big block Mopars , most of them equipped with no-choke Holley double pumpers. For the OP, an "old tech" DP would probably work great.

I do have this Holley available. Not sure if it’s an 850 or 950
