It seems like that would defeat the purpose of the splash shield. I.E., if air can get in, so can water.
You don't have to follow standard engineering practices. Do what you seem to prefer. I'd wager you're not racing it , so the brakes are for looks and cooling is not a concern.
 
I want to do autocross with it. Those brakes are getting used, and used hard.
 
Do you drive in a heavy rain? Also the shield protect against little stones getting trapped in brake pad. Again these cars are designed for worst case conditions. gravel road at 50 mph, driving through deep puddle or road washout.

I live in So Cal. No unexpected downpours here. I've had the shields off my Barracuda since 1997. Little different climate and area.
 
I've got a good stretch of gravel road between my house and the asphalt. I don't have to drive the Charger when it rains, but it does have to go over gravel.
 
When the wife and I were looking to relocate a couple years ago, some really nice properties with acreage were on dirt roads.
No thanks.
I can't imagine living where I have to take a dirt road to get home. If all I had were beaters and pickup trucks, sure.
There was no way that I was going to drive my shiny cars on dirt roads like that.

LOL, you should have seen how it was when I was a boy. The county road was dirt and creek rock. If you drove down it, you were leaving a big rooster tail of dust.

Too bad I lost my interest in 4X4's.
 
Anyone know what the torque specs are for the adapter bracket bolt, and the caliper bolt?
 
Thinking about my rim mounting issues, I think a 1/2" spacer would be enough for the rim to clear the knuckle arm. A 1" adapter would definitely do it, and then the rim would be far enough out that the center cap that came with it might clear the dust cover. The center cap is nearly a 1/2" tall -

I could potentially modify the center cap. There's a sticker that is supposed to cover that hole, but perhaps there is an existing Dodge/Mopar emblem that could go there as well? A Dodge center cap that could be attached to this center cap? Something perfect is out there.

They'd have to be about 2 1/8" inches diameter.

Problem is, these fill a 67mm hole, and I've got a 63 mm hole.

These are 64 mm. They might work?

Nah, those are too big as well, aren't they? 64 mm is the distance between the holes in the tabs, which don't line up with the diameter of the cap.

The top one has 62 mm I.D., and the bottom has 61 mm inner diameter, but it's taller inside, so more likely to clear the dust cap. But will the clips hold if they're 2mm too far inside? I could thicken up the inside of the tabs with a piece of electrician's tape, but the latching mechanism might not hold the cap on.
 
So I watched a couple brake rotor change videos for the Viper, and one for the C8 Corvette - I did not see any dust/splash shields. Looked at Baer and Wilwood's big brake kits - did not see any splash shields. I guess I'll stop worrying about splash shields, they can't be too important if Corvettes don't have them.
 
When I had dust shields on my car every so often a rock would get stuck up against the shield and make a ton of noise. I removed them years ago.
 
They obviously don't protect the side of the brake they're not on, so what are they for? I've read that they keep brake dust from getting on the rims - but again, that's only going to be on one side of the brake, and who cares about the inside of the rim? Brake dust is still getting on the outside of the rim. If they keep brake heat from cooking suspension components and make them last longer, o.k.; that's a valid concern for most people. It's not a big concern for me, on this car.
 
Is an 8.5" rim supposed to be this wide?

all rims I've measured usually have an extra inch total for the full width and this is usually stated on the product websites. For example, my 15x8 centerline has an overall width of 9" and my 15x7 has an overall width of 8".

Where did you find an 8.5" wheel? I've been looking for a 15x7.5 wheel to fit perfect with 245/60/15's, but I don't think they make them...
