On a 1968 charger with 440 4 speed transmission, getting ready to actually drive this car. Got motor running, found first gear, found reverse gear, when I let the clutch out, it engages half inch off the floor, which is way too low for me. Also sitting in driver seat looking at the shifter, lever and knob, “seems” like everything points to the right more than it should be?

See pictures.

Maybe the wrong shifter handle for your year/model ?? Regardless of where it points, it won't affect the clutch engagement.

My clutch also engages very low. I'm using a diaphram clutch. I seem to recall it engaged higher with a stock-style Borg and Beck. What type is yours?

unfortunately i have no clue of the new clutch…. It was installed with a new 4 speed and rebuilt 440 when i purchased the car. I DO know, it takes quite a bit of pressure to push the pedal down !

Your shifter is fine. To make the clutch engage higher up, increase the “free pedal” by adjusting the clutch adjustment nut on the clutch release leaver so that it pushes the clutch release lever further towards back of the car. Keep going! You’re almost there!

8 months and counting ….

It’s down behind the starter. There will be a threaded rod and spring connecting between the clutch fork and and the z-bar. Some pictures. To move the clutch engagement off the floor you will need to turn the rod to lengthen it.
