Yeah, I have a couple of XP29s, a couple LL29s too.
And yeah, now we’re 2 pages in we definitely need to know if the magical mystery box has any magic in itHook it up and see if it goes.... it could be fun if it works.
I tell everyone I drive an XP29N...said me...never.
Y’all keep track of your vin? I don’t even have the fender tag! Oh crap, I let the cat out of the bag. Yeah the car is worthless now because it doesn’t have numbers for anyone to drool over , with that and the terrible electronic ignition on it I’ll have to call the metal recyclerYeah, I have a couple of XP29s, a couple LL29s too.
If anyone is still intrigued by the magical MSD box in the shed, I just had a great time with a Holley rep. He had me send pictures of the box because he didn’t know what I was talking about. He then had to walk around the office and try to find someone who’s seen one. And the consensus is , wow that thing is old and probably works better than our new ones!
He also told me the magnet pickup line is a traveler and it won’t fry anything hooking it backwards, it’ll just make
The timing jump if it’s wrong and I just flip the wires. So I guess I’ll bench test
I had 68 satellite I put a 383 and fitech fuel injection on, the fitech didn’t like the Mallory distributor so I put bought a new msd box, the engine was a completely stock 66 hipo with hp manifolds, and you could tell there was a difference in the exhaust note , which is a pretty good indicatorThere’s a good possibility that old MSD box will work fine. And as previously mentioned it will definitely throw some serious lightening out. I had one years ago on an old Dodge pickup running an LA 318 and it went with the truck when I sold it.

I was not smart enough to pull that engine out or anything else off before selling it .
I've always heard the older MSD boxes were way better than anything in the past.....what, 30 years! If anyone is still intrigued by the magical MSD box in the shed, I just had a great time with a Holley rep. Dude, I’m not kidding at all , the rep I talked to today even said unfortunately this one is probably better then our new onesI've always heard the older MSD boxes were way better than anything in the past.....what, 30 years!
I sometimes memorize the VINs of the cars I have, not because they are valuable though. Numbers are sometimes easy for me.Y’all keep track of your vin?
Many years ago, I had my Charger's VIN memorized. I don't know why, and I can't even remember my wife's cell #...but I know my VIN.Y’all keep track of your vin? I don’t even have the fender tag! Never memorized VIN numbers but still know the casting numbers of the most recent three 8 3/4 3rd members. Did a lot of them but don't remember the bearing numbers lolMany years ago, I had my Charger's VIN memorized. I don't know why, and I can't even remember my wife's cell #...but I know my VIN.![]()
Yes the pickup is just a coil ac generator. No fears. If anyone is still intrigued by the magical MSD box in the shed, I just had a great time with a Holley rep. SEE MY RESPONSES IN BOLD......Fine, I’ll bite, even though I know how this is going to end. Here goes the beginning of the end of another thread , because “the all mighty” Bob has commented and now it’ll be a pissing match instead of anything of any value. WHO DETERMINED WHAT YOU SAY HAS ANY VALUE??......CERTAINLY NOT ME....
First of all why in all if Gods green earth do you feel so damn compelled to give your vin number ? This isn’t pebble beach , (BTW...PEBBLE BEACH IS A GOLF COURSE) this isn’t the Goodguy nationals , nobody is questioning the authenticity of your car, but I will play your game. Are you implying that if I had an RS27, the dual point distributor wouldn’t last as long ?.....NOTHING TO DO WITH LONGEVITY....
THE HP ENGINES ( SIX BARREL AND HEMI GOT THE PRESTOLITE DUAL POINT DISTRIBUTOR, THE OTHER ENGINES GOT SINGLEPOINT DISTRIBUTORS) MY CAR IS AN ORIGINAL VEHICLE....ONE OF 678 VEHICLES BUILT WITH THE SIX BARREL ENGINE (350 4 SPEED CARS AND 328 WERE AUTO TRANS). RS27 VEHICLES WERE CONVERTIBLES. IT WAS BUILT AT THE LYNCH ROAD PLANT ON THE 19TH OF NOVEMBER 1969......AND NOT A PUT TOGETHER PARTS CAR THAT STARTED OUT AS A 6 CYLINDER CAR
Secondly, if your all mighty points ignition is vastly superior, how come mother mopar went away from them? In fact , why did every car company go away from points ? MOPAR SWITCHED TO ELECTRONIC IGNITION BECAUSE OF EMISSIONS AND TO PROMOTE LONGER MAINTENANCE INTERVALS AND ULTIMATELY, IT HELPED INCREASE CORPORATE PROFIT MARGINS (if you understand what that means).....
Lastly , and I maybe answering part 3 of my own question , if I’m not mistaken MSD was founded in 1970 by missile engineers at white sands, so pretty sure they know a thing or two about engineering and proper combustion. Yes,you are mistaken.......it was originally developed by AC/DELCO. WHITE SANDS MISSEL RANGE IS WHERE "TRINITY SITE" OCCURED WHERE THE FIRST ATOMIC BOMB WAS DEVELOPED AND DETONATED.........LOOKS LIKE YOU SHOULD BRUSH UP ON YOUR HISTORY.......any other comments/questions??????......
Uhh.. excuse me, Bob ? { gently taps on shoulder } ...pardon my interruption... you forgot to close with "just my opinion... of course"SEE MY RESPONSES IN BOLD......
