Did I find treasure in my shed?

I tell everyone I drive an XP29N...said me...never.

Yeah, I have a couple of XP29s, a couple LL29s too.
Y’all keep track of your vin? I don’t even have the fender tag! Oh crap, I let the cat out of the bag. Yeah the car is worthless now because it doesn’t have numbers for anyone to drool over , with that and the terrible electronic ignition on it I’ll have to call the metal recycler

If anyone is still intrigued by the magical MSD box in the shed, I just had a great time with a Holley rep. He had me send pictures of the box because he didn’t know what I was talking about. He then had to walk around the office and try to find someone who’s seen one. And the consensus is , wow that thing is old and probably works better than our new ones!

He also told me the magnet pickup line is a traveler and it won’t fry anything hooking it backwards, it’ll just make
The timing jump if it’s wrong and I just flip the wires. So I guess I’ll bench test

There’s a good possibility that old MSD box will work fine. And as previously mentioned it will definitely throw some serious lightening out. I had one years ago on an old Dodge pickup running an LA 318 and it went with the truck when I sold it.

I had 68 satellite I put a 383 and fitech fuel injection on, the fitech didn’t like the Mallory distributor so I put bought a new msd box, the engine was a completely stock 66 hipo with hp manifolds, and you could tell there was a difference in the exhaust note , which is a pretty good indicator

I was not smart enough to pull that engine out or anything else off before selling it .

When you get this box fired up do a test on a good ground spot and see the fire . The engine will likely start even before the first full revolution. Mine always have. Major difference.

I've always heard the older MSD boxes were way better than anything in the past.....what, 30 years!

Y’all keep track of your vin?
I sometimes memorize the VINs of the cars I have, not because they are valuable though. Numbers are sometimes easy for me.
I remember addresses, phone numbers, bank accounts, measurements of buildings that I framed years ago, all sorts of useless stuff!

Many years ago, I had my Charger's VIN memorized. I don't know why, and I can't even remember my wife's cell #...but I know my VIN.

Never memorized VIN numbers but still know the casting numbers of the most recent three 8 3/4 3rd members. Did a lot of them but don't remember the bearing numbers lol

Yes the pickup is just a coil ac generator. No fears.

Fine, I’ll bite, even though I know how this is going to end. Here goes the beginning of the end of another thread , because “the all mighty” Bob has commented and now it’ll be a pissing match instead of anything of any value. WHO DETERMINED WHAT YOU SAY HAS ANY VALUE??......CERTAINLY NOT ME....

First of all why in all if Gods green earth do you feel so damn compelled to give your vin number ? This isn’t pebble beach , (BTW...PEBBLE BEACH IS A GOLF COURSE) this isn’t the Goodguy nationals , nobody is questioning the authenticity of your car, but I will play your game. Are you implying that if I had an RS27, the dual point distributor wouldn’t last as long ?.....NOTHING TO DO WITH LONGEVITY....
THE HP ENGINES ( SIX BARREL AND HEMI GOT THE PRESTOLITE DUAL POINT DISTRIBUTOR, THE OTHER ENGINES GOT SINGLEPOINT DISTRIBUTORS) MY CAR IS AN ORIGINAL VEHICLE....ONE OF 678 VEHICLES BUILT WITH THE SIX BARREL ENGINE (350 4 SPEED CARS AND 328 WERE AUTO TRANS). RS27 VEHICLES WERE CONVERTIBLES. IT WAS BUILT AT THE LYNCH ROAD PLANT ON THE 19TH OF NOVEMBER 1969......AND NOT A PUT TOGETHER PARTS CAR THAT STARTED OUT AS A 6 CYLINDER CAR
Secondly, if your all mighty points ignition is vastly superior, how come mother mopar went away from them? In fact , why did every car company go away from points ? MOPAR SWITCHED TO ELECTRONIC IGNITION BECAUSE OF EMISSIONS AND TO PROMOTE LONGER MAINTENANCE INTERVALS AND ULTIMATELY, IT HELPED INCREASE CORPORATE PROFIT MARGINS (if you understand what that means).....

Lastly , and I maybe answering part 3 of my own question , if I’m not mistaken MSD was founded in 1970 by missile engineers at white sands, so pretty sure they know a thing or two about engineering and proper combustion. Yes,you are mistaken.......it was originally developed by AC/DELCO. WHITE SANDS MISSEL RANGE IS WHERE "TRINITY SITE" OCCURED WHERE THE FIRST ATOMIC BOMB WAS DEVELOPED AND DETONATED.........LOOKS LIKE YOU SHOULD BRUSH UP ON YOUR HISTORY.......any other comments/questions??????......
SEE MY RESPONSES IN BOLD......

Look what I found :

The Pioneers of Performance Ignition

Today, MSD Ignition can be found on a nitro-breathing 12,000 horsepower Top Fuel dragster, 200+ mph NASCAR or gravity-defying 6-ton Monster Jam truck; But tracing our roots sends us back to 1970 at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, a U.S. Military testing and firing range. Tasked with the challenge of igniting lean-burning and exotic fuels, the focus was to create an ignition system that could meet the demands of lean-burning fuels and optimize fuel efficiency. This focus led to the birth of CD or Capacitive Discharge ignition, which is an ignition that can produce and store higher spark output energy to help burn or ignite these lean-burning fuels. Through this, MSD, or Multiple Spark Discharge was pioneered. This technology allows an ignition system to fire or send spark to a spark plug multiple times during one combustion event, producing a hotter, cleaner and faster spark performance. Soon MSD would grow and innovate breakthrough products tailored for high performance street and drag racing applications, and the rest is history. Fast forward over a half century and MSD has maintained its position as a leader & relentless innovator in performance ignition ranging from classic to late-model, street, strip, dirt, marine and nearly every racetrack around the globe.

So found in more places then points ignition….which I still haven’t heard a valid or even a smart *** reason why if points are so much better then why has everyone gone away from it ……

If U do actually connect up that old, legacy MSD box..
Be sure to recheck ur timing...
Those old MSD boxes typically had alot of latency..

Just my $0.02...

Any way, it’s a dud , but this was very entertaining and slightly informative

If anyone wants a cool wall hanger PM me
I have some wall art in my shop out back....

On the wall is the original door and fender of the wife's Challenger. The fender was damaged when another driver crossed into my lane. The door was another collision where I crossed into the other lane.
Ooops!
