Reliable starter relay

Why does “pardon our interruption “ appear every time someone posts a link to an eBay item?

I agree, there are estimates of a life span but again, these are not absolutes.
Anecdotal information only, based on small sample size, but when I drove these things as transportation, the PA weather and road salt ate the cars up long before the factory electrical components failed.

I agree, it claims "Made by an original Mopar / Chrysler supplier" so even if thats true doesn't mean its exactly the same as stock. I just impulse bought it so we will see how it goes.
Idk where he gets his stuff , but it seems fine , I have one on my car and I didn’t know I was suppose to count starts, but it’s had quite a few and it’s fine

Post #18: 'They [ the starter relay ] need to handle starter draw & battery amperage'.

I presume ' battery amperage' refers to the amps drawn by the starter motor, which is several hundred amps.

The statement is completely WRONG & misleading. The sol on the starter switches the heavy motor current, NOT the starter relay. The starter relay only switches the sol current, 60 amp max with a production starter & closer to 30 amp with a mini starter.

The relay shown in post #14 has been on my car for many years & is driven weekly.

I don’t think several hundred amps but I think something in between 100 and 150 depending on engine CR?

Dunno, just thinking out loud. I don’t have the numbers on hands. And I have been attacked for that speculation quite ago LOL.

And the old Mopar gear reduction starters amperage draw is rated at 400-450 amps according to the FSM. That's a fresh starter and not a 40 year old worn out unit that probably draws 100 more amps. I have tested starters that draw close to 800 amps.

So I bought a couple of AZ relays. I will replace one, keep one for a spare and pull apart the original one and see if I can clean it up. If it cleans up good then I'll re-install it.

THANKS for the numbers… good to let him know to my “good old friend” LOL

when cheap sunglasses posted the link they were on their ebay account, when you click the link it takes you to the pardon page while it opens the item in your ebay account, it happens so fast generally you never notice it

it’s amazing how much knowledge is available here on B-Bodies.
As in science & politics there are always differing opinions. That is not bad.
Old staying: There is a right way, a wrong way, and always ANOTHER way.
I am 82. My MoPar days were were back in the 50s & 60s.
With all the knowledge available today, I have very little to contribute. I am just amazed at how much I learn on this forum.
But I would like to see differing opinions presented without personal insults. Please.
Let’s move forward building on the cumulative knowledge of the group. We don’t have to agree. Please differ in a more friendly manner.
