1969 roadrunner front drum brakes lock up.

Put new 11 in brake pads on front. When I tighten lug nuts brakes lock up. Just tightning lugs onto brake drums lock them up. Are wheel hubs bent or what is going on. Hubs will spin free till u tighten lugs. I hate to buy new hubs and that not fix the problem. Any suggestions. And if I have to have new hubs where can I find them. Used rebuilt ebay $175. 1 sorce. No guarantee, no return. Open to any suggestions.

So, all you did was change to new Brake SHOES? The drums are the same? Wheels are the same?

Did they spin before you installed new brake pads? I had that happen once when i installed new brake drums. It looked like the drum was sitting flush on the hub but it was actually getting caught up on the shoulder of the wheel studs. That caused it to be slightly cockeyed and when i tightened the lug nuts it would lock up. Probably not your problem but something to check.

Yes tried old wheels,new wheels and no wheels. Just tightened lugs to brake drum. Just snug down locks wheel up.

Sounds like brake shoe width is wrong. Check width of your old shoes.

Well, if the only change was the shoes-the shoes must be the problem. Put the old shoes back on for a test.

But don't even need to put the old ones on, just remove the offending ones and see.
