Looks like the Eads Bridge !
That's what I thoughtLooks like the Eads Bridge !
Well... you certainly know more about old VWs and Porsches - and probably most everything else - than I, but might I suggest that this is a matter of semantics? I mean both the VW and the Porsche were designed by the same man and his engineering staff, and both were produced under their direction and both shared, arguably, the same DNA... of course, a solid argument might be made that they are actually descended from Hans Ledwinka and should be called Tatras, but we won't get into that right now... ;)No.
The car was built in 1937 as the Volkswagen W30 – still at the former Porsche engineering office and with support from Mercedes. After the three so-called V models, which no longer exist, it was the first prototype series for what would later become the VW Beetle.
Well... maybe lets not say 'copied' ... but borrowed heavily from some design ideas. "Inspired " is maybe a nicer word...The Tatra 87 that Porsche copied to build the Volkswagen.

Yes, Borrowed heavily. Not only the looks of the Tatra T97 but also its rear mounted air cooled flat four engine, planform chassis with central backbone, rounded body shape, swing axle rear suspension... After Tatra sued VW for ten different violations of patents, Porsche was about to pay the settlement. Adolf stepped in to say he'd handle the problem, which of course he did by invading Czechoslovakia.Well... maybe lets not say 'copied' ... but borrowed heavily from some design ideas. There is one of them right down the road from me and I remember it was a 2 door and the guy said it was worth over a million. The Tatra 87 that Porsche copied to build the Volkswagen.
