I’m having problems locating bushings and pivot pins. Will 68-72 B Body LCA’s work? There are plenty of parts and options available for those. Do I have any other options such as a control arm from an A body or something like that? There seems to be no stock or aftermarket parts for 73/74 LCAs.
Regarding the lower control arms on a 1974 Road Runner, the lower control arms interchange with all 1974 - 1979 B-bodies, 1979 - 1981 R-bodies, and very late build 1973 B-bodies with press-in ball joints. Other 1973 B-body control arms with screw-in ball joints interchange with the change to 1973 ball joints. 1972 and prior B-body control arms and components are different and do not interchange. The lower ball joint numbers from older companies are as follows:
- TRW 10285 (10163N 1973 screw-in)
- Moog K7069 (K719 1973 screw-in)
- Sealed Power 801-10285 (801-10171 1973 screw-in)
- Spicer or Raybestos 505-1028 (505-1001 1973 screw-in)
- McQuay-Norris FA952 (FA958 1973 screw-in)
Other more modern sources, such as Pro-Forged or Mevotech, may have other offerings.
The lower control arm bushings for 1973 - 1979 B-body and 1979 - 1981 R-bodies interchange. Note that the shown listing for different bushings depending on whether rear isolators (Iso-Clamp) are used is a difference in durability and stiffness. The bushing for non-rear isolators is higher durometer rubber for heavy duty applications such as police. The bushings physically interchange and the different bushing use was later dropped. The aftermarket only produced one replacement. As indicated, TRW bushings are part number 12316. Some old brand numbers are as follows:
- TRW 12316
- Moog K7059
- Sealed Power 813-3
- Spicer or Raybestos 565-1028
- McQuay-Norris FB360
Other more modern sources, such as Pro-Forged or Mevotech, may have other offerings here too.
The lower control arm shaft, or pivot, is interchangeable with 1973 - 1979 B-body and 1979 - 1981 R-bodies. The shaft was originally only serviced with the control arm assembly by Chrysler until 1977 when the shaft and bushing package, part number, 3837079, was made available. The older aftermarket companies did not produce a replacement shaft, but it may be available from some modern suppliers.
