Winter arrives soon so I put my car to sleep. In the meantime I thought about a new torque converter. My current one is stock and is not in harmony with my built engine. My car accelerates like a one-legged dog off the line till 30mph. Power only comes from kickdowns.
It also hasn’t enough strength to spin the wheels for a burnout.
I have a 310hp 318 paired with the standard 904.
I‘m looking for quick power transfer off the line.
Camshaft‘s peak starts about 3500rpm

Any brand, stall speed, types (lock-up/non lock-up) to recommend for me?
Thanks

I went with FTI, they make great converters and the better part is they are amazing to deal with.. had some issues (ended up nothing to do with the converter) and they were extremely nice and professional to talk to and work it out.

I have a 318 myself and run a 3200 converter (remember the number is relative to your torque.. so it's just a guideline)

When changing the converter I guess it’s smart to also install an external tranny cooler since I saw most of them are non-lockup converters.
3500 stall should be good for my engine‘s powerband

I went with this cooler... It's a little big but.. rather overkill than under, use copper/nickel line.. sooo nice to work with. Did bulkhead connectors through the lower support, tried to use as little rubber as possible (have like 3" of rubber total in the lines)

P.S. power steering cooler hidden under the battery tray also.

just match your new convertors stall speed to your cam , And I agree, Hughs convertors are pretty good for an off the shelf piece...
