Silver Sport A41 Trans is attractive option to me for an overdrive transmission as it fits tunnel in B Body with minor modifications. Got a quote from Silver Sport seems high, thinking about having my local transmission shop build a 4L65 trans, go with a QuickTime steel bell housing (Much nicer than Aluminum housing) and use the Holley Black heart transmission and motor mount kit. Looks like I need an adapter flywheel, spacer and GM stall converter.

Silver Sport Transmissions 1966-70 MOPAR B-Body A41 4L60E Automatic

Already bought the Holley Terminator X ECU as it will control Hemi & GM transmission as harness is off the shelf. Watched videos and guys have done but didn’t get any first hand feedback just manufactures hype.

Another member did a whole long write up but was couple years ahead of most of the aftermarket parts which now makes it much easier to convert. Looks like he was successful but many set backs.

Anyone running the GM overdrive trans?

I hope not

There are plenty of people who have opted for the 4L60E. Try some of the e-body forums or the Gen III Hemi FB page.

Not in a Mopar, but I built one for a GTO I had awhile back. They are pretty tough if built right. I used a Yank 3500 converter.
It held up well with 500 HP. Guy I sold it to is still out terrorizing Idaho with it.

Tell me again why its a better choice than A518/46rh? 518/46 bolts up no adapter, fits without tunnel mods. Its a Mopar transmission. I don’t see where the GM trans is even an option.

I will be running 392 Hemi, cam, cai, headers should be solid 525hp without supercharging. My transmission guy suggested A518 has a lower ceiling for durability at that hp. I didn’t want to modify the tunnel, it was on my list of trans options but I didn’t have any experience with them. I have used the GM trans with great reliability but with GM applications etc.

We have a few cars both GM & Mopar all with different capabilities or limitations. Looking for durability, performance and something I can hand the wife the keys in an older car yet easily repaired if we breakdown out of town.

I have a 71 Charger with a 6.4 and A41 it works well but I just did a first gen ram with 6.4 and 8hp no comparison do an 8 speed way better and a lot cheaper. I don't think you would have to do much to the tunnel.

Good to hear on the A41, did you use the Silver controller or something else?

The A8 is a tunnel gut on a 69 B Body from what I have read, superior trans for sure I’d much rather use the A8 if I felt it would fit.

I think I can build my own kit outside of Silvers A41 for about 2k less than they quoted less driveshaft.

Nice ride you have!

Bought the silver sport no complaints other then price. Complete kit trans shifter crossmember and drive shaft with controller.

Sounds like your guy might be a Chevy guy lol. 46rh or 46re is the way to go in my opinion. Cope Racing has no problem building them for 600+ hp. Even if you go with a 46re plus controller for it, cost is probably still south of the A41 package. You can even use factory column shift linkage with a 46. It’s really a great (and underutilized) fit for a G3 Hemi swap.

I’ll look into the 46rh/46re trans, as it wasn’t on my radar, tunnel modifications appears to be only reshaping like GM overdrive. Any trans is going to need a modified cross member and new driveshaft so all looks equal.

Yep my transmission guy is definitely a GM guy, built a ton of overdrive trans for 500-750hp applications with high reliability. Silvers kit looks nice but is horribly expensive. Holley makes most of the bolt ins and they are discounting for holidays, GM Stall Convertors are abundant and priced competitive.

Attached is a pic of typical Hemi/GM 4l65e trans package with QuickTime bellhousing, it’s a nice upgrade to stock aluminum housing or A41 model. Leaning this way but exploring options. Appreciate your input.
