Firm Feel Rant

Well Shirley just phoned a place in Alaska and had a nice chat with Arnie. He provided some good info about the fourth of July car drop / crash event. It is always good to be able to talk with someone and get good info. We will be there in the Tukvan around 02 July next year. I will try and get any classic Mopar products set aside. But I doubt it. I have seen camper vans and motor homes flying off the cliff. They did not survive very well.

The shipping quote is BS. I can get on pirate ship measure my box weigh it and get an easy estimate for shipping costs on car parts I sell. Firm feel just being lazy.
I used to sell parts on eBay. I did the same with a bathroom scale and the UPS website. I was always really close. If I overquoted I returned the difference in cash in an envelope in the box with a copy of the receipt. It took less than 5 minutes to do. I’ve never liked that way of doing business, but that’s just me.

Matt,
Must have seen our post here because he just sent me this email. He also tried to call me.

Hello Daniel,

I sure am sorry about the other day. I can be a real *** sometime, and, man, I was just overwhelmed here where I cannot catch up (one week forging and neglecting emails/calls had me below water) – but, I can also be a decent guy from time to time; so, if you want, please give me a call sometime and I personally will do the best I honestly can do for you. If it was just a matter of shipping from the shelve, it would be no sweat, but it is a busy time of year and we have to make it. In summary, I will just have to give you the best lead time(s) I can foresee.

I thought too, that I can just call you when your order is actual ready to ship and I have the grand total with shipping – so you know what and exactly when to expect it. Moreover, if the shipping blows the deal, you do not have to give me your payment.

Well, I appreciate the consideration Daniel, and wish you a happy holidays either way.

So 99% of me wants to just ignore Matt, he should have thought about this before he burnt that bridge. The other 1% wants those upper control arms. What would you do?

Sorry to hear about your bad experience but it doesn't surprise me. I worked with Dick Ross for many years and I helped him develop a bunch of products. I can't work with Matt.

Just the ones on my car!

If I were you I'd forget it. If I were me , I would have bought them already without the drama.

I had a similar experience with customer service 20 years back when I was working on a 90's Mustang. Except it was from a much bigger outfit then this guy.
I bought the part I wanted, and once i got shipping and tracking, I replied to the last email how I felt about the communication. A different person then who I had talked to originally apologized abou tthe situation.

IMO, in this situation, it looks like Matt may have realized his behavior may cost him money and it was being shown to the public also. I would take his apology for what it is and move on with life and get the parts you wanted from him.

Regarding shipping, I have never understood the "I will check it when I send it" mentality. In the age of fleabay and Amazon and all the rest, ask UPS or whoever for a quote, add $10 to it and round it off to an even number and call it good. The tell the customer if you are over, you will charge less at the time of shipping. Ta-Da! now the customer has a ballpark figure to budget it with and knows you won;t screw them over if it turns out your estimate was way too high. I have never gotten hung up on shipping, if you are big enough to have a service pick up at your place, you are paying for that service. If you are smaller than that, you are traveling to the service and should get some gas money IMO. It is being decent to each other to understand boxes arent free, gas is not free, UPS coming to your business to pick it up sure isn;t free. Estimate the cost and work it out.

Anyway, I would go for it. When I got my Mustang part at first I was still cheesed but a few spins around the block after install and I was happy I swallowed my pride, and they had apologized after all. Life is too short to hold a grudge, and hopefully Matt is a little more self aware next time around with someone else.
