Does a person with a perfect credit rating exist??

Using their money to make money is not a bad deal. While holding a balance can obviously make them money, they make a fast few percent to make transactions. Not everyone will let you use them because of the cost to them. I wanted to charge my epoxy driveway. They said they couldn't. I asked them to figure it out. Out of 14 thousand after he did the math, we let me do 6.
Lots of companies here are now charging a "surcharge" for using Credit Cards or 'PayWave' - simply because the Banks are charging them as merchants to use the facility.

Here's the latest TV advert that IMHO is vile....but makes the point

Point taken!!
We have some gas stations that have two different prices, cash and credit.
I do what I can do.

On the rare occasions that I have tradesmen do work for me, I’ll ask if they’ll give a cash discount. I’ve saved a bunch doing that.

I saw a ton of cash price/credit price on my recent marathon drive to FL and back.

I need to try and set up for some of that cash back stuff. I've always been 'meh' about using credit, and if I put anything on a card (usually food and fuel) it gets paid that month. Never really thought about gaming the system, just kinda kept moving along.... Seems to work, I'm 830s, but as mentioned above "if you can make money off the system...."

It only takes 1 or 2 bad months. Someone that lives on the cc can be ruined. Me ill stick cash on hand. Been in a hole that took to long to dig out of.

Just had a conversation with the wife on this. We don’t finance anything. But I spend a lot on a personal credit card for my business travel. Gets paid off every month. I suppose the 850 will go away when that stops.

All my kids got a credit card when they got their first job, 500 dollar limit. Having a job, good or bad is great, but if you can't manage your money, it's never enough. I'm always talking about money, it was one of my hobbies and playing the game is fun. You're good with money, I can tell. Playing with someone else money is convenient. What I don't understand is the infatuation with ATM's. I go to my Credit Union every once in awhile to get enough cash to take care of my cash needs for the month or so, everything else is plastic. Those people that are concerned with being controlled or followed by the man by leaving to big of a footprint are to late, your SS card took care of that. How is it that they know you credit score. I'll guarantee you that they are more concerned about low level fliers than they are open books. Do I have money at home, of course I do. I don't hide big money in my house, money out of play is a waste and I'm too old to worry about the world ending. When that day comes, it will be easier to get it, than hold on to it, trust me. Indirectly, my investments are linked to my Credit Union, wire transfer. So, phone and wallet and all is well. You can either pay your card off at the end of the month yourself or do autopay. I do autopay and sometimes Theresa will phone in an extra payment in the middle of the month to keep the payment down. It's great to be married to a person that doesn't feel like she doesn't have to worry about money. One half is only as good as the other half in life. I'm blessed in that regard. Try it out.

I had a law professor who did an outstanding job of explaining banking and commercial transactions in the context of real world events. He was a fan of properly used credit cards, because of additional consumer legal protections not provided by instruments such as checks and debit cards. He had once served as a trustee for a trucking company in bankruptcy, and had been shocked by the volumes of cash handled by the drivers. Although the digital age has created new issues for that industry, financing road expenses has become far less of a problem. I made it work for me in building my credit rating.

As always Adam, well said and point taken!

I have one card.

...and pay off twice a month.

Sometimes I let it roll over for a few weeks just so I pay a small finance charge and that supposedly helps credit. Supposedly.

When I get denied credit (seriously, with an 829 score) the report comes back as-

Reasons you didn't get approved for (walmart/lowes/etc) credit card-

-Not enough credit accounts
-Too many credit accounts

-Not enough credit outstanding
-Too much credit outstanding

Seriously.

I had 1 of those 800+ credit scores. The theif that stole my identity thought was real handy. I do my best to have a goose egg now. Nobody wants to bother with stealing id for $500 limit.

Since 2012, my business credit card that does points has earned .....

200 dollars!

Yipeee!

Only took 14 years.

That includes paying for a parking lot and some major electrical work.

I have got some good cash back deals over the years. After I bought my Ram, I kept getting emails about a Ram Mastercard, with an offer to give you $100 cash back if you made a purchase at a CDJR dealership within a month of getting the card. I timed signing up until I was about due to get an oil change in the truck. Pennzoil had a $25 rebate at the same time, and the dealer had a coupon on their site too, so I managed to get a 0W-40 oil change in the trucks 6.4 for about $10 when all was said and done.
That card gives 5% back in any CDJR dealer purchase, so I use it from time to time to get that including when I put a deposit down for my Scat Pack purchase.
Discover always has quarterly 5% rebate offers. In summer for 3 months they give 5% back on gas, which is nice during the driving season. Another quarter they give 5% on grocery stores, and another they do it for restaurants.
Recently more and more restaurants and gas stations are charging a premium to use plastic. So the advantages of using cash back cards are diminishing. But over the last 30 years I’m sure I’ve totaled up a nice amount of money utilizing cards with cash back offers and paying my bill in full monthly.

My gf gets two offers a week from discover, and shreds them.
I might sign up for a discover..... but I never get one, lol.
(But, if you forget to make the payment on time, just once, the interest and late payment charges eat up ALL that tiny bit of cash back, several times over.)
