So it must be a trim level upgrade - option for your car. That means the tail section sheet metal would have been stamped with holes....not drilled at a Dealership later on.

Is your car definitely a Road Runner, and not a Sport Satellite? IT may be that your car has an extra trim package that mine didn't.

This is a picture of my '70 Road Runner at the rear.....bought in 1988......and there was no trim on the rear from factory.

I painted the taillights black as preference...with the trim the entire upper section would have been black.

Cool! It`s just weird they added that trim as I`ve neve seen it on a road runner.

Lots of people just added it later. I have the chrome trim tail lights from a Sport Satellite on mine, added around 1980. And the extra chrome trim as well.

I will have to do some research on how to add the tabs to the new quarter panels for the rocker trim.
