I'm in the process of installing auto-adjusters on a 69 road runner 11" front drums. I bought the self adjuster kit, and scrounged up the adjuster spring I need, but once it's installed the adjuster itself is nowhere near the star wheel.

You can see in the second photo that the adjuster is far below the star wheel. It also seems to be far outside of it too.

Has anyone else experienced this, and what is the solution?

Thanks,

I can't see the lever against the star wheel.

Is the cable guide in hole with spring on it flush with shoe? Easy to get crooked.
Hard to tell in picture
Yes everything is in place except the adjuster.

If everything is in place I would suspect the cables are to long.
I bought the kits for an 11" brake. Two different manufacturers because for some reason rockauto likes to put kits for the left and right in two different warehouses so you end up paying 2x shipping. Right side is Raybestos H2535, left is Centric 119.63003.

I will compare the cables in both kits to be sure they're the same.

It's not against it. That's the problem. It's hard to see the adjuster because it's sort of the same color as the floor.

Lever should be on TOP of the wheel.

That's one problem

There are a few more.

Talking about the spring under the lever. Could it be pushing it outwards being on inside.
The red spring on the first picture on last post

Is that tension spring correct?

That's what I'm leaning toward because the one that's in there is one I found in my leftover part stash.

Is your photo an 11" setup? That's bringing differences to light. A photo of the whole thing is below, I can see that at least that spring and the primary return spring are different

The return springs are what were on the car to begin with (photo below). I didn't buy a complete hardware kit so that might have been my first mistake.
