A-833 Driveshaft Yoke Wedged in Transmission - How to Get it Out?

Many years ago I had a driveshaft failure & the driveshaft yoke got wedged inside the tailshaft of my A-833 4spd transmission. I hack sawed apart the yoke so I could remove the transmission/driveshaft. I still have the "stub" of the yoke (wedge sideways I think) in the back of the transmission. I just tried to get the piece of yoke out with vise grips and big hammer (driving it out), but I couldn't get it out. I did give the yoke piece a tap or two inwards, and it seemed to move, but it won't back out. I haven't even tried PB Blaster, heat, or anything really. Does anyone have an idea of how to get this piece of yoke out? I want to get the transmission rebuilt. Ideas? THANKS!

Your big mistake was hammering it inwards. Lop off another inch and hope that's enough to open it up and expose the end of the tailshaft. If so, get a damn good grip on the yoke and whack the tail shaft. Hopefully that'll break it loose.

Weld a big nut on the yoke and use a bolt to push it off the tail shaft.

I can't see what I'm supposed to be looking at. All that I see is the housing with a sleeve sticking out? Yoke is cut off? Weld two lugs on the sides and use a puller to remove?

As mentioned prior, I would weld a nut to yoke. I’d thread onto a slide hammer to remove.

Mine did that same thing when I twisted off my Dana 60 pinion. Had to beat it hard with a big hammer to get it out. Didn’t hurt the transmission any.

I only moved it inwards 1/16" to see if it was "wedged yoke teeth on main shaft teeth" and it isn't (since it moved)

Correct - You're seeing a cut off "nub" of the yoke that's slightly cocked sideways on the back of the main shaft... just enough to be stuck. Welding a a big nut on the end & using a big bolt to push it off sounds like a GREAT idea! The 2-nut slide hammer idea would work too.

That movement could have just been end play on the main shaft.
