    I'm in Starter HELL!

How did you make out with that starter? I see it's twice the price, but is the throw on the pinion gear the same as your old starter? For some reason I cannot find a mini starter that will engage the flex plate for my 67 Chargers 383, the gear just won't come out far enough, very weird.

    Lakewood Scatter shield starter issue

I am having the same problem now. I tried 3 different mini starters, and they will not engage the flex plate. Summit has a starter for a big block and Hemi? I will check that out. You can see in the picture that the gear only goes so far and is not engaging the flex plate. The blue line is as...

    I'm in Starter HELL!

I saw that. The starters I tried did bolt up and the holes lined up great. In fact, I used two studs instead of a bolt and a stud. I did that cause it was a pain in the *** threading the top bolt. I just ordered rebuilt OE starter, I just hope I can keep both studs. I worried that the OE starter...

    I'm in Starter HELL!

No way, I tried 3 mini starters, and I just can't use them. Have to go back to a rebuilt OE type.

Confirm starter fitment: 1970 Charger 383

Sh!t, for me the cable was the easy part. My battery cable should have been changed anyway, so I bought a new longer cable and cut it to length. The smaller wire was long enough; it was just the battery cable I had to change. I don't know why, but I just cannot use these mini starters.

I put a mark on your image for the problem I'm having. The gear only goes up to the blue mark but needs to go to the inside edge of the nose. I'm gonna have to go back to the heavier OE style starter. Just my luck.

I had to change the battle cable anyway, so I just used a longer one and cut it too length. Even if I had to go back to the OE starter, its still ok.

The two starters I tried did seem to have a gap on one side. Looked like a machining issue. I ordered this starter, and it should be here for me to install tomorrow. I just hope the throw on the gear will be enough with this starter. I have to say though, it was allot cheaper than the other two...

Looks the teeth aren’t going out far enough. Take a look at both starters. I put a mark where the teeth are extended. When the mini starter extends its teeth, they seem to not engage the flex plate.

It probably is me; I guess I should have never tried to put one of these mini starters in. I wanted to put a new starter instead of another rebuild that might fail in a few months like the one that was in the car.

Did you have to trim the shield when you put it in? I had to trim the hell out of it. After putting it in, I found a larger gap on the top is the starter this time. I’m gonna pull it out and put it in without the shield and see what happens. Looks like I might have to get the starter that came...
