I can't say it's 100% accurate if you're **** about your resto correctness, but a couple cans of SEM Trim Black will handle all of your tasks that are semi-gloss or satiny finish. SEM Trim Gloss Black for anything glossy. It sprays very nicely on any hard, non-porous surface; metals or plastics...
That just gave me an idea...I have several kinds of aluminum countersunk washers. I could simply sand the filled-in holes flat and use these on top of the column cover when it bolts back on. That way, there'd be almost no stress placed on the cover screw holes.
Nice work. Stainless steel is great because it can be fine sanded and buffed/polished...like an automotive clearcoat, it's just a much harder material. It's easier to work with than anodized aluminum, at least. That needs to be stripped of anodizing before you can polish it up.
