Everything I read, said it should be cast. But hearing from other people who broken down bunch of these motors, they said that they found a lot of forged crank in them from the factory. Maybe it was overrun or overstock. But I’m not complaining.
From my 1970 318 original motor in the sport satellite. Looks forged to me but I am no expert.
Is the 318 crank the same as the 340? Same stroke?

Well new u-joints and balanced drive shaft and the vib is gone. I still get a small low frequency drone at 55+ but I am not worried about that so much as it’s not real noticeable. Bigger fish to fry kinda thing. I know some people chase that drone in perpetuity……kinda like purgatory lol...

It’s smooth. I was just curious how bad a miss-balanced motor would behave. If obnoxious then I could assume it’s and externally balanced crank and thus set up is ok.

How bad would an engine run if the engine was internally balanced but used a harmonic balancer and flex plate that were weighted for an externally balanced engine? How would it idle and also how would it cruise at 60?
