I just invested lots of money on a new dash pad and recovering my seats. Now when I take a lady out occasionally I like to shine it up with some Armor all and make look all shiney. It seems that EVERY forum I read claims that Armor All damages your vynil and plastic. Is this true? It is one of the oldest interior cleaners/protectents on the market..so how could it suck so bad? And if it is so dangerous, why? No one says why it dries out your dash. This is fusterating, as I want to use a product I can trust to prolong the life of my interior. Is it silicone base? I read that it was water base now. Why does that matter?

Another thing, I read that Armor All has petrol in it. And that petroleum is bad for vynil and plastic... How is that? vynil and plastic are made from petroleum!

Interesting. Have my Charger for two years now and used Armor All, too a several times. Beside the interior like dash I cleaned and protected the tinyl top and tires (deep black and shiny) as description on bottle says it's also made for. Also used it since 2008 for my "modern" daily driver.
Have doubts now, too. Another cleaner can be silicone spray. Who knows more? Has someone already asked the Armor All customer service and faced them with these opinions?

In case of not I feel up asking them. No big thing for me.

I worked at an autoparts store for 17years and have heard both sides of the story. Personally (and this is just my opinion), I think dashes crack because of the material they are made from, and sun exposure. They weren't made to last and Armour All isn't going to change that. However, when you are talking about vinyl tops, that's a different story. I've seen people buy Armour All and pour it onto their top only to wonder why the top is bubbling up later. It must have been bad glue, right? Ha!

meguire's makes an interior cleaner 4 the dash, and a vinyl cleaner, and I think they are both made to protect,I like it better than armour all.

I recommend connosseur's choice made by liquid glass it is designed for leather, vinyl upholstery and rubber it is a mink oil base and seems to work well with everything i tried it on

If what you're putting that stuff on is already dried-out it can cause it to become warped or distended. I've personally ruined some weatherstripping trying to save it that way. I'm sure there were other factors involved (hot sun, whatever), but it was enough to make me swear off Armor-All forever. I use STP Son-of-a-Gun foam stuff on tires, it leaves 'em black but not shiny.

Hmm. That's what I already thought as much: Too many commendations as an alternative to Amor All and not knowing a single one of them

I use either Johnson's Baby Oil on dash pads, or I use Auto Magic's blue jungle juice. It stinks, but it doesn't evaporate and slime your glass like Armor All does, and you can (and I have) used it on vinyl tops, rubber seals and hoses, and on my tires.

At the moment it's the ONLY thing I use

Armour All works good on vinyl tops too, just use it in moderation.

Armour All does make things interesting though, have you ever tried going around a corner after putting it on the seats.:pixie:

Gojo hand cleaner without the grit. The cheap 99 cent schtuff at Home Cheapo.
Works on dashes and vinyl tops.
Rub it in lightly, let sit and buff to a shine...Done.
Not too shiny or wet looking, and not dull--more of a natural look,IMHO.
Sit back and enjoy the glare..LOL!!

Its all the same crap just a different toilet.lol

That's my belief so far. Some products are slightly different in appearance.

I just spray a paper towel and rub it on so it doesn't leave anything on the glass. I cover my dash and door panels maybe once a month.

How about simple green? I've used it on tires and it works great. Has anyone tried it on their vinyl?

I used simple green to clean the interior and it did a great job. I just followed the instructions and went with it. Topped it off with a coating of Armor All and it still looks great. I have used AA on tires, plastic body mouldings, vinyl (interior/top) for 25 years and not had any bad luck yet. Of course, it could happen anytime. Keep it clean and protected and it will last a lifetime (for years). My 2 cents.

I use Meguires at my shop, I've heard both side of the Armor All argument. Cheap and easy to find, Lemon Pledge works well and smells great. We dont use any dressing on seats, steering wheels or pedals.

303 protectant is really good stuff it doesnt leave that slippery greasy look and it doesnt ruin the thread and other fibers like armor all does.
