I just found this forum searching for info on late model hemis in older mopars. I have just completed such a transformation and wonder how it would go over in the mopar world. It is a 392 crate motor, TKO 600 tranny and Moser Dana 60 so mostly Mopar parts, just newer than ever could have been had in a 72 charger. I also have replaced the front and rear suspension with XV Motorsports parts. We are still working out a few bugs, but so far, a very fun car indeed. If I won't get too much flaming from the purists, I will post a new thread about the build.

Yeah, forget the purists' desire, it's all about making it the way we want to make 'em! Take for example my friends at www.paintshop101.com here in San Antonio. They make awesome resto-mod cars, Steve's son Brandon is a definite genius with creating and fabricating metal for these cars. I do their Media Blasting for them, and get to see the progress made on the cars as I pick up and deliver stuff for them.

Stuffing a new HEMI in an old car is the way to go! This is my plan for my Q5 1969 GTX; probably a 6.1 crate motor w/ tranny (either 727 w/ overdrive or something else), upgraded rear and front suspension, big wheel and tire combo's, (not too big).

Yes, post pics!!

If it's not a museum car, then make it what you want. There are plenty of museum cars, that you can't drive. What good is that ? Yeah, they're worth megabucks, but to me the whole point is driving a fast Mopar. And not having to fiddle with carburetors, chokes and points and all the other old technology must be nice.

Welcome to FBBO Bill! We have a range of different types of collectors/builders here so you may get a range of comments as well. For the most part, I am sure they will all be tasteful/constructive/postive comments. Now ... let's see some pics!

Cool ,we like different. Now wheres the pics? Oh and wheres my manners ,welcome good to have ya.

Well thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words.
Is there a particular place to start a project thread?
Here are a couple pictures of the car, but I will start a complete thread soon as I know where to do it.

Yes, that bar bolts into the old shock tower. New suspension eliminated the need for the factory shock location. It ties in with the XV body stiffen bars nicely and really tightened up the car.

Maiden voyage picture last Thursday night. Hood is being painted as I type this, it will be car color with only the bulge blacked out.

BTW: Let me ask Joey to add a Members Restoration/Project area (which I thought we had all ready). Bare with me.

Bill, the "Member's Projects & Restorations" forum is up and you can have the honor of being the first one it (if you see this in time). Looking forward to seeing all the before & after shots.

Thanks, looks like I will be about project number 5, late to the game. I have started a thread, waiting for mod approval or something. Then I will post the rest of the story once it is up and running.

Car Looks Great!! One of our top pin strippers " Designs by Michel" just moved down to Pigeon Forge, from the Buffalo NY area. Small world.

Welcome. Looks good. And I think you'll find a couple of other similar projects hidden in here
