So, I broke down the other day. Well, not really.

Turns out the 850 CFM Edelbrock that the previous owner installed is too big for my 318. (this is the same kid who screwed straight through the near-perfect front door panels to install speakers... *sigh*)

Anyway, I got towed. It choked out, then it was blowing white smoke through the carb and wouldn't start back up. The shop tuned it to run better for the time between now and when I can afford the carb swap (maybe three-four weeks). I'll be doing the shocks and leaf springs then as well.

LONG STORY SHORT... (somewhat)

They also adjusted the brakes for me and let me know I need a Master Cylinder and Proportioning Valve. The former is no big deal. The latter, I'm discovering, is not so easy to find.

So what are the options as far as the Proportioning Valve is concerned? Do I have any way of circumventing this part, doing new brakes, or retrofitting something else? I mean, within reason, of course. Sure I can put in an entirely new brake system, but I'd rather not drop that kind of cash if I don't have to.

Or can anyone here recommend where I can find one? How much am I going to spend? What would you do?

Thanks in advance!

Disc brakes on front? look at summit racing. they sell them.

Drum brakes all around. I'll check over there, though, see if that's still compatible. Thanks.

Proportioning valve for four wheel drum brakes??? Unless I'm missing something you don't need one - at least I never seen one installed from the factory. Could someone be looking at the distribution block and saying it's a proportioning valve?? I hear this happen quite often. What are your symptoms?

Call Fine Lines in Ohio ! they have the valves. Drum car is only a block not a proportioning valve. Their number is 1-800-778-8237. Fine lines has a dealer in Canada too. 1-888-474-5343
