'65 Satellite from Auto to 4 or 5 Speed... Would You ?

I want to convert from auto to manual...... First, are there any books, articles, how to's that you guys can point me to ?

Secondly, would you look for an original 4 speed set up ( which would include exactly ???? ) for my 383 or can I get a 5 speed aftermarket setup. Car will be a crusier, no strip but want that torque'y feeling as well ?

I am really open to ideas.... kinda not my thing but I want to be involved. I would like to have some knowledge of what is available to me with the above 383 likley to go back in car.... 8 3/4 with 323 posi..... should the rear end be changed out as well ?

Give it to me.... but keep it 101 if possible...:grin:
 
In Mopar collector guide theres a company, Brewers I believe is the name, They will sell you all you need. Or so there ad says. Maybe some one has dealt with them here and can tell you more.
 
Depending on your budget,there is Passion performance,Keisler and others.It can easily run into the thouands:edgy:

I've converted my 65 Coronet from auto to manual. Was manual originally so I didn't have to change the tunnel (you need a 4speed humb).

What's already in you posession? Do you start off blank?
 
Alot of work and money, especially when you have to hire it out. I say nay.
 
if your looking for better gas mileage and lower rpm, you might consider a Gear vendor overdrive set up. That one of the things I'm considering on my Coronet project.
 
Go with the 5speed. Super low gears in the back (3.91 or 4.11) and with the overdrive, decent mileage. Best of both worlds, just my opinion.
 
I like the idea of a five speed.... it seems like a duanting task..... but in the long run if I can pull it off..... I would have the best of both worlds...
 
Would it matter if I have a one piece pan ready to go in and did the hump work before I set it in or I assume better to wait and have the new pan all secured and square before I start measuring for a stick shift addition ?
 
I changed mine from /6 3 speed to BB,Tremec 5 speed,3.73 rear. The complete Keisler set up was around 4 grand and that was 7 years ago. Car ran 11.90's and got 20 mpg highway.
 
The Keisler 5 speed setup seems to be the most complete, including the hump for the trans tunnel. My neighbor has one in his '70 Chevelle with a hydraulic clutch actuator. I don't know how much he spent but he's very happy with it and said the install was a snap.
 
Just my opinion, but here it goes.
I did the 4 speed conversion in my Roadrunner a few years back. It was cheaper than doing a 5 speed conversion, but not by much. I've done a bunch of 5 speed conversions for customers and am really impressed at how well they work and how fun the cars can be to drive. If I were to do the Roadrunner all over again and starting from scratch, I would go with one of the 5 speed conversion kits. Don't get me wrong, the 4 speed is a blast, but knowing what I do now, that's the route I would take.
