Guys, i'm finishing up my shop and its time for a decision of what lift to buy. I have big, wide bays and 14' ceilings so there wouldn't be any limitations when i bought a lift. I'm 6'6" and i'm tired of ducking and hitting my head. The only lift i've found that has an 84" lifting height is this Atlas but i'm not crazy about it. Does anyone know of anything any better that will give me that lifting height? I like the Mohawks and Rotary's but i don't see where i can get that height. I think all i'll ever need is a 10,000lb capacity. Thanks.

i feel your pain my brother. being of sasquatch decent myself, youll need the high lift. hitting my head on countless things over the years has takin its toll on the 'ole bean. maybe thats why im such a simpleton ????? lol

I'm doubly cursed.

6'3", mostly in the spine. Not good for running or basketball, and I have SEVERE headroom issues in most cars (and some trucks and vans).

Nothing like being forced to slouch and still trying to look through the visor...
... or simply not even being able to consider certain models of cars.

I literally feel your pain.

...but I can almost always find a tall guy at a concert, who's near the front, with no one standing behind him :)

My shop is 40x64 14' ceilings and 3 12x12 doors I have a Atlas lift from Greg Smith I am 6'8 and have always had to duck a little the one I bought from them was over 4 years ago and it is a 10,000 lbs lift, I use it everyday and it works great I think I paid $1500 for it 4 years ago! I had paid a guy $400 to install it but when I moved into my new garage last spring I installed it myslef, you can buy the concrete anchors cheap off Ebay (lot cheaper than Fastenal and they are same brand) believe they were reddevil?? bought a box of shims (I still have a bunch if your interested I would sell you them cheap), rented a hammerdrill and when you drill your holes drill ALL the way through the concrete that way if you bugger the threads up on the anchor driving it in you can drive it on through into the dirt. Really very easy.

in my shop we have 16 lifts(rotary and inground)the only one that seems to go high(i am 6'4" tall)is the challenger model 12000 that we picked up for service trucks(12000 lbs)i can walk under vehicles with room to spare on that rack.

Can you get the model number off that lift? I was surfing last night and saw a comparison on the Rotary and the Bendpak. Really no comparison in my opinion. I called Bendpak and they said they can't do any better than whats on the website. I thought maybe they could make an extension.

If you do many transmission swaps and engines you want a 2 post lift, not a 4 post rack they are a PITA to do anything but HD service work or brake work on.

the model # is 12000 acording to the label.its about 6 yrs old and has never given us any problems even in a shop as busy as mine.challenger phone # on label is 502-625-0700,but that rack was sold to us by a local company that is no longer around.

I've got 14' 2 ceilings in my shop , so when I needed a lift I bought a 9,000 lb two post assymetrical Challenger lift, Which wiil actually lift 10k. But here's the thing, I found out that you can buy a two foot extension for it, which allows you to put pop up vans, ambulances, anything tall like that and still walk around under them. The only thing is though, the actuall lift arms only give you about 78" which is ok for me as I am just 6ft. But still have oodles of room under vehicle. With the extensions on my lift , I have about two inches to spare above the posts, Just does fit . Hope that helps. Mitch

Can't you pour some ten inch (or so) high concrete footings for the base and thereby have a higher lift? You may need to make longer ramps if you do this, but you'd have a wider choice of lifts. Just wondering...

Excellent idea Photon.

If I ever decide to perm mount my four post, I will do that. I occasionally move it around the shop on casters when I get tired of my layout.

I had a 2 post, but like the stability of the 4 post I have now better. I also like to use the runners to set parts and tools, bolts, etc on while working. Is a bit of a hassle getting engine puller setup under engine, but both types have advantages.

I ordered a lift Thursday. I settled for a Quality Q10. It has a full 72" under the lift arms when it is fully raised. A buddy of mine has one and i've been under it with a car on it. I thought they had quit making it but they are still available. They also have screw adjusters which i really like. I would have preferred something a little wider but this is as good as it gets for my height. It comes with the certifications i was looking for also.
My buddy has had his for 5 or 6 years and has lifted a Dodge 3500 dually 4 door without incident.

Congrats .. most people have to worry about height so it's cool you can go with the tall boy :)

Thanks TH. I've looked at everything. This is by no means the perfect lift but i got the highest rise of any..........At 6'6" and widening, this is the best i could come up with.

One of the FBBO members recommended the Atlas lift to Me and I'm not sorry I bought it. Drove to Newark De.and bought it at Greg Smith, had it installed and never a bit of problem with it. SAM_2598.jpg
