Disk brake donors for 8 3/4

What vehicles should i look for at my local pick n pull for disk brakes to convert my 8 3/4 from drums. I'm useing this rear in my 73 charger [it came out of another 73 charger] to replace the 8 1/4 in it now. We are building this car to use in Poker runs and fun weekend backroad driving. Thanks in advance.
 
There's a guy over on FABO did a real nice job on one with brakes off the rear of a later model Jeep. You might try searching over there. I forget who it was off the top of my head.
 
Thanks i found the thread very informative and lots of machine work,i also found some kits so i will present these to my son to see what he wants to do thanks again.
 
I think there have been a couple conversions using ford exploder discs
 
The early 70's Imperial brakes will work but good luck finding a set. You'd be better off getting a Wilwood kit or looking into the suggestions mentioned above.
 
I have a new wilwood conversion kit. But it has drag racing disc. Since rear disc aren't supplying most your braking these should be ok for light street duty.

I bought it from another member but ended up getting a Dana 60 with a disc set up on it.

Ford exploder brakes on a Mopar? Now I gotta go vomit after typin that.
 
I have read the thread using jeep rear disks there is a bit of machining to do and i'm not capable of doing it so in light of that i'm probly gonna talk my son into going with a bolt on kit to avoid a bunch of fabricating/machine work.Found several kits that are affordable we shall see. Thanks for your responses.
 
Well, let me pose this question. Why do you need rear discs? What are you going to do with the car that properly working rear drums will not handle? When the Mopar brake system is in good shape and working right, it is a DAMN good one. Just food for thought.

The majority of a car's braking is done by the front due to the weight shift when you brake. That's why there are so many front disc/rear drum setups from the factory. That said, if I had extra $$$$$ around, I would put discs on my Dana in a heartbeat just for the WOW factor!
 
The front does do most of the work, but it's probably not as much as you think. It's around a 60/40 split in most cases. Ever had rear shoes get WAY out of adjustment? The brake pedal will fall like a rock. Also, drums are arguably better at turning friction energy into heat energy, which is what stops the car in the first place. Drums have MUCH more surface area than discs. Discs are better at dissipating heat. That's why drums fade. Too much heat buildup and it gets transferred into the fluid. IF drums could dissipate heat as good or better than discs, they would far surpass discs for stopping power. Brakes for wow factor? Whatever floats your boat.
