rear drum brakes

Any suggestions for rear brake shoes (1965 Coronet)? I'm very unhappy with the performance of the Autozone lifetime shoes on the car now. The parking brake won't even hold the car on a slight hill, and yes the primary and secondary shoes are installed correctly and the parking brake cable is adjusted correctly. I am beginning to think that the friction material is too hard, but I am open to suggestions.

Possibilities that you're braking force is weak,
Make sure you are putting the brake shoes in the proper relationship to the brake drums,& they are braking. Also Try sanding the brake shoes & resurfacing the drums........

Does the parking brake not hold or stop the car going forward? Parking brakes don't hold the car worth a crap when rolling backwards. Do the shoes confirm to the drums? How many miles do you have on them? If the contact patch with the drum is less than 80%, you won't have very good brakes.

Get some Raybestos brake linnings..( good stuff ) and check the diameter of your drums... if they are worn to much...the system doesn´t work.... ( as cranky stated before )

Replaced the shoes with American made Raybestos. Also installed all new hardware. Problem solved.

The drums must be within the machined tolerance, and the shoes must mate exactly to the drums.....if these two criteria are met, then you will be fine. New shoes don't necessarily fit any drum...they must be checked for contact surface area to operate correctly. Even if the shoes were glazed as hell, they should still hold if they are a perfect fit to the drum.....friction does the work.
