Jeremey's Ivy Green Metallic 1970 Plymouth Satellite Sport 2 Door Hardtop

It didn't look very 'destroyed' in the original pictures. I hope someone will be able to help you out on this.

Perhaps the salvage year had it on a list they were getting ready to report destroyed for whatever credit they get for that and forgot to take it off the list when they sold it to you. Simple mistake or oversight. Have you talked to the salvage yard? Perhaps they can file an amended list or whatever since they obviously NEVER DESTROYED THE CAR.

I hope this works out for your brother

I'm still milking answers out of the DMV/DOL.
I will certainly be calling the Seller once I have more info, I'm pretty sure they are the ones mostly at fault here.

This is the latest reply:
"After you transferred the title we received the report that the vehicle had been wrecker destroyed. There is no notice sent out because the wrecking yard report shows that they took this vehicle into their inventory.
When a vehicle is listed on the wrecker report, it is listed as wrecker destroyed on the vehicle record. Once a vehicle is wrecker destroyed the title, registration, and plates are cancelled.
"

I'm being told the Vehicle was reported "Destroyed" on 12/12/12.
HOWEVER,
I bought the vehicle on the 12/19/12, And got it titled/registered, etc on 1/2/13... I also bought vehicle reports through mid January, And they were CLEAN.

I can still apparently get the car Registered and Re-Titled, As long as I get a State Inspection. And my registration will then be "Re-activated".
HOWEVER.
The Title will be salvage/rebuilt.

Wow... It just occurred to me, Since all the paper/legal work was revoked... Doesn't that put me back to where I was before I even went into the DMV? Only a bill of sale and receipt from the seller. Hopefully enough to prove it does not belong to the seller anymore...

This is insane.

What would you guys do if you were in this situation?
Just accept the branded title and money lost?
Take legal action?
Do nothing further, Sell the car as-is and let someone else deal with it (Of course tell them the details)?
Part it out?
Other?

Don't get me wrong, I love the car and would like to keep it.
But,
All it's been doing is stressing me out and will be (or has been) branded now.

And "Wrecker Destroyed" does not look good at all on a vehicle report or to insurance companies.

Don't give up now, you're on the homestretch! If a state inspection will get everything reinstated, go for it. So what if it has a salvage title. Man you saved a decent car from the crusher!!!!

I would talk with your lawyer and get his opinion on where you stand. The fact that you were issued a title and tags and passed inspections from the state, goes in your favor. Plus you have the car it's self with all numbers matching to prove that indeed it was not destroyed. The state could make this right if they wanted to take the time. I would fight for it.

what are your plans for the car? If you're going to flip it, then the salvage title could hurt. If you're planning on keeping it, then I'd live with it and enjoy the car. I'd print off this thread for proof of the car's non destroyed history.
I used to ork with a guy that bought wrecked rebuilables. He'd get the title in his name, then transfer it, and the salvage part would drop off the title.

Maybe just keep being persistent down at the DMV and with the seller. What's right is right and sometimes if you are in the right, earnest enough, and nice enough to the right lady down there at the DMV, things go your way.

Lawyers are expensive

Talk to your insurance company and explain the situation as when you bought the car, when it was "wrecker destroyed"' and when the DMV titled and transferred it. They should be able to help you a lot. (kinda like free legal advice). Salvage titles are not that big of a deal like they were years ago. I sure hope you can get to keep your car. If I lived closer, I would do what I could to help you keep the car.Transfer title in my name for a little bit then "sell" (no cash involved) it back to you if that would take the "wrecker destroyed" label off the title.

Not sure if that would take it off? Thanks though.
And Thanks for the advice everyone.

I got an actual higher up at the DOL to reply today:
"I am responding to your recent emails regarding your frustration about not being able to renew online and learning of an additional requirement of a Washington State Patrol (WSP) inspection. I have reviewed the document(s) provided on January 2, 2013 for the transfer of ownership of a 1970 Plymouth, BEL2T, with vehicle identification number (VIN) ############ into your name. I have determined that an error occurred during this transaction.

Upon presenting your bill of sale from Pick-N-Pull with wrecker number **26 it was the operator’s responsibility to check the vehicle record to confirm the record was flagged with a 4T before proceeding with the titling transaction. The operator error was in processing the transfer of ownership without the 4T flag. The training issue was brought to the attention of the office supervisor and addressed with the operator who originally completed your transaction.

A 4T flag means the vehicle is no longer considered a motor vehicle. It is a set of vehicle parts that is not to operate as a vehicle unless it is rebuilt. When the flag is placed on a vehicle record, per WAC 308-56A-460 (see attachment) it requires the owner to have the vehicle inspected by the Washington State Patrol (WSP) and purchase new plates.

New plates were purchased however it doesn’t exempt you from having a WSP inspection completed. In light of the operator not providing this information and now the added inconvenience to take time out of your day to have the inspection completed, as a courtesy I can waive a portion of the additional fees, which includes the WSP inspection fee ($65), titling fee ($25.50) and plate replacement fee ($24). The registration fee of approximately $70 for 2015 will be your responsibility.

Please make an appointment , have the vehicle inspected and retain the inspection form to present your local licensing agent. Once your WSP inspection is completed, let me know the day you plan on visiting your local licensing office and I will instruct them to complete the transaction with adjusted fees. If you have any additional questions or concerns, my contact information is listed below.

Thank you"

So!
The DOL/DMV did indeed screw up.

Question is... Since I was actually issued a Clean Title for the vehicle, Should I try and make them keep it that way?
Would this even be possible...? Could an attorney even make that happen?

Because it's pretty clear the best I would get from this point on, Is a "Rebuilt" title... Sigh.

Side note: The WSP inspection is a 42 mile round trip.

That sounds like good news! I'd try for the clean title, but if not, I'd go with it. at least you can drive the car.

Sounds like they know the screwup and are just making it the legal way to get it done and over with you got a good deal on the car and it wont take much more to get it done . and you can get to working on it without any more worries ,

Plus keep all the documentation. It'll make for a great write-up in 2050 for an online Mopar magazine. :)

Hi all,
Happy Thanksgiving!.

Here is the latest reply:
"I received notification that your registration can be refunded. I have attached the form for completion. You will surrender the tab and registration. If you are unable to remove (intact) the tab just send attached to plates. The vehicle record will be set back to the original expiration date of 2/28/2013.The following is a break- down of the refundable amount:
RTA - $2.00

TBD - $20.00

License - $30.00

Vehicle Weight fee - $10.00

Total = $62.00

In response to your question “Are you telling me the vehicle/title is now branded, or will be? For the life of the vehicle???” The vehicle is not branded but it will have a comment of 4T."

Hrm, Isn't that still a Brand?
And what does "The vehicle record will be set back to the original expiration date of 2/28/2013" mean exactly???
Any of this sound really off to you guys?

I'll be running a few paid history reports here (As soon as I get some printer ink). And see what it's currently got showing.

Sigh.

Yes, I could settle with how THEY want to "Resolve" the matter.
But, It seems really wrong.
It's not exactly satisfactory to me and they are just trying to cover their mistake/s.
In the end, There may be nothing I can do but accept it...
Though, I would like to know that there is absolutely no other options available before doing so.

Is there anyone besides Lawyers/Attorneys I could be trying to contact for knowledgeable advice on the situation?

While I would ultimately like to keep it ~ I still have not decided on the fate of the vehicle.
I now have family nagging about a "Junk" Vehicle on the property, While we are looking into Hazard Insurance. Ugh.

I wonder if transfering the title out of state and then back to your state would work. If you got the car titled in say my state of maryland, then took that title to your dmv as if you just purchased the car from out of state. I wonder if the vin would pop up in the system.

About 8 years ago I had a title problem with a car that I owned so I contacted an attorney about what to do. He said for about $500.00 he could get a judge to order the state to issue a new title but with a state issued VIN. He said I would need to get a police officer to inspect the vehicle. He will document the car, fill out the form and then a background check will be done on the vehicle by them. If the car is legit I will get an official document from the state stating so. If it comes back clean he will take it to the judge and he will proceed. I didn't like the "state issued VIN" so I told him I would "think about what I'm gonna do, and I may simply cut the car up rather than spend a bunch of time or money on it." I said this because I had Googled "title problems" and a company called Broadway Title came up. They said they needed the same state issued police report that the attorney needed and their cure for my problems was only going to be about $350.00 AND I could keep the original VIN. So I took them up on it. Three weeks later I got all the documentation I needed to get a state issued title which when I took it to the DMV they approved and a couple of weeks later I got a real title. However this may not be of any help to you if your VIN is in their records as a non-titleable car.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the good info and advice.

Just wanted to do a quick update.

So,
I ran a Vehicle History Report, And was immediately met with what I dreaded most:
"Junk/Salvage - HITS FOUND"
Under the Junk and Salvage History, It shows it was sold and reported on 12/17/2013 (I didn't ask about purchasing it until the 18th).
It doesn't say why it was "Sold" as Junk/Salvage. But Shows where it was sold, And who sold it in fair detail. Under the Junk/Salvage area on the Report.

3 Things:
Seller assured me it would get a clean unbranded title (Lied apparently).
I bought it on 12/19/2013 and Got the Clean Title on 01/02/2013, As well as clean history reports through then.
I WAS STATE ISSUED A CLEAN TITLE, REGISTRATION, TABS, PLATES.

Honestly, If I had been warned and known all along during the buying process that the title would be salvage, I wouldn't be fighting anything.
However,
They (THE STATE) game me everything, And took it away!
I still don't see how the state could do that to Me. Regardless of THEIR mistake (They admitted to making a mistake through e-mail). It seems really REALLY shady...

And to rub salt in my wounds, The NMVTIS History Report has a GIANT red warning that the car has a Salvage History...

So,
Obviously it's been done already. The car is Salvage Branded. BS!

man that sucks. But you still have a great car. I still say print off this thread as proof the car wasn't totaled or anything, and go ahead with your plans,

What a drag this whole ordeal is turning out for you.

When you say you bought it on '12/19/2013' I'm guessing you meant 2012?

Wow.....Really sorry to hear of your crappy adventure, lying sellers and robot heartless DMV employee's. If I was in your shoes, i'd be pretty pissed as well.

I agree with what is being said. Your only option for a clear title is more than likely an attorney, with their admitted error I would say that it is possible. How much is a clean title worth to you? It is still a good car and honestly I wouldnt be bothered with owning a salvaged car like that, I can't imagine it affecting the overall value a whole lot. I would just continue with your plans and enjoy the car.
