Correct battery size/type for a 67 B-body?

Well, the battery in my 67 Coronet died and I was about to get a replacement, but it looks like (according to online searches and the parts store) that several "groups" of batteries with top posts will fit. I definitely want to get the proper battery, not just a size that "fits".

Which type of battery size was stock?

I'm thinking of going with the much touted Walmart batteries instead of a much pricier Optima Yellow. Opinions on that?

Being a Teamster, Walmart is the last, last, last, last place I'd go.

You can get a MOPAR repo

But, any 750 amp+ CCW will suffice.
(CCW = Cold Cranking Amps)
 
Group 24 or 27 is the correct size for you! A 27 will have more ccw, 750 amp or more
 
Dude, go to your local dodge dealership and buy a MOPAR battery. They are surprisingly cheap, and good batterys. I was just on the hunt for a battery when mine died in my Cherokee. Batterys are not cheap anymore, After some phone calls I ended up at the dealership. Will be doing the same for my swinger and coronet soon ...

What is "cheap". The MOPAR classic style repopped batteries are $200-$250. Autozone batteries start at $125.

Cost is pretty steep though at just under $270.

I just go to Walmart myself and look for the most cold cranking amps for the $$$ that fits because I'm pretty sure the batteries they carry are made by the same people that make most of the other brands too.

That would be light for a car battery but it's for watercraft and motorcycles and it's ony 4.5in x 4.5in x 3.5in.
 
I guy on Moparts called the manufacturer and they said they've used the battery to start a 10.5:1 500 cid motor so I think it's a cool alternative to moving your battery to the trunk. You would get the weight off the nose plus save the weight of all that battery cable running back to the trunk.
 
i have a wal mart battery size 24F. been in the car since 2005. i looked real close at the manufacturer, and it's "Johnson Controls". Sorry wal mart haters, the next battery for me will be from wal mart.
 
+1 to 67Satty. I work for Johnson Controls and was going to add Optima and all Walmart batteries are both made by JCI. So is Diamler Chrysler for that matter. Three manufacturers (JCI, Delphi, Exide) make 95+% of the batteries.

Also, +1 to super-bee_ski. In the last year, I've replaced 3 batteries in my kids' cars (all NAPA Legend) made by Exide, as well as an Optima for my daily driver truck. I spent the extra on the Optima for my 4WD truck since it gets the most use in the Michigan winters. If interested in NAPA, watch their sales since I bought all 3 batteries around $100 each.
