Hi

Maybe a dumb question, and I might even be burned by the puritans for even asking this - but here it goes

I really think that the stripe the dodges have around the rear quarter over the trunk looks kick *** - but would it be dumb to put on a 1969 roadrunner? Not with the clear space where dodge has the logotype, but just plain stripes, thin-thick-thin in black over my burgundy car?

Or is this like slapping on a RS6 badge on a BMW 328?

My opinion is it would be like breast implants on a guy. Some people might think they look ok, but, its just not right!

I know what you're saying but those da*n stripes are the only thing I regret with buying a plymouth over a dodge lol

Couple of 68's to give you an idea.

Dodge stripes on a Plymouth don't look right. But it's your car, do it to make you happy.

I love the Dodge stripes, but I just can't see putting them on a Plymouth. My Limelight car has the hood stripe, but I feel like it needs some more black at the back to break up all the green. I am not a fan of adding a wing, but I just can't bear to add a Dodge stripe to my Road Runner, so green it will stay!

As others have said, it is your car so do what you like. I wouldn't though...

Well that's the problem - I love the looks of the stripes but on the other hand - I frown at people who stick things on their cars that don't belong there.

So second question: The big "PLYMOUTH" lettering on the rear fenders - was it any specific cars that had them and would the purists crucify me on the forum for putting them on?

I put those letters on the rear quarter panel of my 1971 Road Runner. When the vehicle was sold to a buddy, the first thing he did was take them off. Maybe it was a bit too much, considering the factory front and rear spoilers, strobe stripes, rear bumper tape blackout, and air grabber.

I'm gonna use a Red tail stripe on my Dark Green 68 GTS. It'l match the red in the hood inserts.
But..... I don't think I would put Dogde stripes on Plymouth.

This was from the 1970 Plymouth Superbirds. I don't believe any other cars came with that from the factory, although the decal has become quite popular to add to other cars.

Damn you purists :)

Actually, I was enjoying being called a puritan. I love their hats.

Dodge had one in '74 but I don't recall any other Plymouths that had the decal...

It's your car do what you want, the only real advice I would give is - If the car is 100% original meaning interior, motor size, trans and options like radio or buckets and nothing has been changed, but may have been replaced like worn out carpet or a paint job then keep it the same.

If your car was like mine when you got it, repainted a different color, interior changed to a different color lots of the original parts missing than do whatever makes you happy, no one is going to give you a second thought if you are upfront and honest that your car isn't original. I think the stripe gives it character, hell put a 70 go wing on it too.

One thing I have learned here is if you do put the stripe on the car, most all mopar guys/gals will call you out for it because they are educated and have spent countless hours online or on many cars learning what is correct and how to see what is not. So if you do it and someone picks on you for it don't feel bad because that guy is just showing off his knowledge :)

Dodge put the stripes on their Chargers & Super Bees in 1968 as a "BEE" stripe. So, it sorta looks out of place on Plymouths. As a dust trail would be out of place on a Dodge.

I've seen a few '68/'69s with the Plymouth letters, and they look better than the rump stripe.

Yes, indeed. Although it was only put on the Superbirds, back in the 70's it was popular to put it on any B -body Plymouth.
