Why is it so hard to get a new Hemi into an old mopar,The chevys are always easy,LS engines going into everything, very lil mods on anything,I know mopars have always been more expensive to work on but just seems like there would be an easier way,Its much easier to just stay with old mopar engine or put an LS in it,just never lift the hood

... how much easier do you want it to be? All you gotta do is open your wallet and you can pretty much bolt one in without firing up a welder

I get what you're saying. I despise Chevy, but they have it a lot easier. Not sure about B bodies, but an A body, you have to cut the crap out of the rear crossmember, cut out the trans tunnel, and buy a 6k front suspension.
Plus, there's no affordable electronics. The one's that are, don't work with all the different years and styles of engine/trans combos. I would love to put a modern Hemi in my car, but I'm not willing to Butcher it.

It all comes down to how bad you want it. I got way more money into mine than i want, but i dont regret it one bit. Alterktion front end. Trans tunnel mod and trans cross member were custom but the reat of it you can get in a kit. I got most of mine thru modern muscle, and street an performance. All great to deal with and will answer any questions you got. I got the 6.1 hemi with the tr6060 6 speed 24 mpg on the hiway. Good luck with your build.

I agree. Go through modern muscle to get whatever you need. I do a lot of business with Dave, I can help you put together a kit if you want

+1 for a kit - I'm contemplating the same transplant after the block I was going to build on turned out to be unusable for anything else than cruising.

Are there more info online regarding transmission choices? I know that the NAG1 from the LX-platform can't easily be used - but one can use a 727 small block transmission. But if I want more than 3 gears - what would the options with the least amount of cutting the car involved? Or is it better to go with a small block 727 with gear vendors OD?

I know modernmopar has a lot of good harnesses and custom ECU but I know plum floored are doing some work in the area as well. So shopping list if you guys have the time would be much appreciated.

I know engine mounts, transmission, oil pan, engine harness, ECU and I've began to scout engines over at lxforums :)

Yes the 6.1 runs strong. Pulls hard and it is all stock. You can go to my project thread it is under MY 70 BARN FIND. It has everything that I used and pics. Just like lx said Dave from modern muscle was awesome to deal with. Great guy. I'm no expert on this. Its just what I wanted an went for it. Good luck

I've got one in the works through my employer. I won't go name dropping, but i can promise you i have a eagle long block, and all accompanying pieces in the shop to put together a decent priced kit, and have it go door to door with the GM LS3 connect and cruise kits in price and performance. complete package minus a fuel and cooling system, with an ECU, a 4 speed electronic trans, and range from 425-525 ish HP pending cam choice. on paper the big boy makes more than the 525 LS3....but we'll see once it comes dyno time. here is the thread that kicked it all off over on FABO.com.

I know the new Hemis are kid of the go to modern engine to go with, but I think if I was going to go with a modern engine in ANY retro rod, it would be a chevy LS engine, hp to dollar cant be beat, super reliable, a ton of tech and parts support, and they are awesome.

Now I know people will say "its a mopar, use a dodge motor", but that wouldnt matter to me, I like chevy ls, lti, sbc, bbc, all good motors, and for your money just plain better. The only thing you can complain about is the name tag, and I just can not bring myself to be that shallow. I'd put a toyota engine in it if it made more sense to me a the time, I had a 5.7 tundra with the toyota super charger that would run all over a 6.1 hemi and when I got rid of the truck it had a hard 140K miles on it, I used to mat that thing 4-5 times a day, it was just that fun, lol...

BUT if you want fuel injection, then add it to an era correct motor, save yourself some trouble and probably some money..

Before I spent the money on a 6.1 hemi driveline (they are ******* expensive), I would get the 6 pack fi set up from f&b https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fMlCgH5OFY with a decent 440 engine build. No cutting and chopping so if someone wants to bring the car back to original its not impossible and it looks bad ***..

Just my opinion we all have them...

my 5.7 Eagle kits will go stoplight to stoplight with any of my Ls3 kits...and they are looking to be priced within 1K of each other. I build/sell LS3's...and i would rather see one of my hemi eagles between the frame rails of any old mopar, any day of the week. The only advantage the Ls has is the guy who wants to pull one out of a wrecking yard and build his own setup (cheaper cores). For the buyer that wants a NEW drop in and go, fully controlled, and ready to roll hemi kit with trans...i have three in the works that will be nearly identical to the LS3 connect and cruise packages i sell. I'm going to take the excuses you point out above for wanting an LS in your mopar, right out the door. give me a few months ;)
