Next on the line of improvements for my 1964 Polara 500 is replacing the electric fuel pump. The further I get into this car the more I think it was set up for bracket racing years ago. Anyway it sounds like I have a beaver in my trunk trying to gnaw the back end of my car off. Does anyone have a suggestion on a quieter fuel pump. It has a middle of the road 383 in it. I will post this in classifieds but I do have a good used 3500 rpm stall converter for sale. The transmission shop thought it was either a B&M or a TCI. $150+shipping takes it.
 
If you're not going racing the factory mechanical pump is more than adequate. Back in the day (1970) my '69 383 Roadrunner would starve for fuel just before the traps because the stock pump just couldn't keep up. The only cure was an electric pump. However, the rule of thumb on electric pumps is the quieter the pump, the more of cost.

I currently have a Carter on my '32 Ford and its pretty loud, but you can't really here it when the Hemi is running.
 
The thing I do not like about mechanical pumps is "this day and age" of alcoholized fuel, which is MUCH more prone to boiling and vapor lock problems. A properly set up REAR pump, which pressurizes the entire system, is much more effective.

Also effective is the 440/ 426 style return systems. You can easily make one out of Wix fuel filters, 33040/41 which have built in return orifices.
