I'm looking at a '68 Road Runner that is in decent shape. It is not a factory A/C car. Living in S. Florida I think the joy of having the car would be diminished come summer when it's 95 degrees and 100% humidity out. It's not a show car and I plan to drive it around. That said, what impact on the value of the car would I have if I added aftermarket A/C such as a system from Vintage? It's relatively expensive to put in in the first place, so I wouldn't do it if it would also kill the value of the car (even though I wouldn't really be buying the car as an investment per se).

It may enhance the value a bit. It can easily be changed back if a future buyer wants it that way. But really...build it the way you want it. Today's generation of buyers, most of them anyway, appreciate upgrades like a/c.

Who cares?
I put it on my 70 Hemi "Bee"

My 2 cents is this: I think if you try to sell the car it does add a bit to the value but more importantly, (taking myself as an example) I don't care how great the price is, if it doesn't have A/C, I am not interested. And someone else may be of the exact opposite opinion.

Classic Auto Air. Tampa. Ice cold for 9 years no recharge. 69. Non-AC car.

Added Vintage Air to my 63 Fury Convertible. Wife's preference and since I kinda like her, I try to please her now and then...lol.

Thank you all!

Thanks for all of the photos and comments. I'm convinced that I will add it if I end up with that car or one that does not have A/C. It will make my wife happy, which will of course, make me happy. Plus it will be more fun. Good point that it can be taken out if a purist wants the car as it came from the factory.

I sure hope it doesn't lower the value of the highly optioned, B5 blue, matching numbers 70RR that I cut up. I'm Sure that whatever value I lose because of the A/C will be gained back by all the cage tubing:headbang:

Unless it is a rare original car, go for it.
I live in south Miami, and there are about 6 months a year a non a/c car can be enjoyed.
Enjoy it for all 12.

Anything can be un-done at a later date. If you really want it. Do it.

First ask yourself. Did you buy the car as an investment or because you wanted the car? Also remember there not making any 68's anymore. The value will take care of its self. Like was posted before there is little you can do to a car that cant be changed back at some point.

Nah, in today's market, it'll increase the value simply by increasing the pool of potential buyers, especially in Florida.
