Auto Parts Store Flunky

I remember working the microfiche along with the catalog rack back when I was behind the counter. Can't really blame the kids today. Times have changed.

I had microfiche and catalogues with the start of computer listings that where not very good and they are still limited

My dads friend went to Autozone for a Radiator cap for his 73 challenger, and the kid thought he meant newer Challengers as he didnt even know they made Them in the Early 70s.....

Every day a New Retard is born.

You guys think you have it bad! It us, on the back side of the counter that have it bad. At our AZ we know cars. Most are certified mechanics. We have a few shade-tree mechanics like me. We will install wiper blades and batteries but are asked to do SO MUCH MORE. There isn't a woman in the store that doesn't ask for her headlight/tail lights/signal/dome lights to be installed. We get asked for estimates to do all kinds of engine work. We can scan an OBD2 code but customers get pissed when we don't clear it for them. One Saturday morning a guy got mad because we didn't have his air filter in stock. He huffed that he was going down to Big O Tires to get one. Well Big O calls us when they need an AF. I had an argument with a customer that was sure he had spark plugs in his diesel.

I am amazed at the parts we have in stock. Window regulator for an 85 Honda, yep. Side mirror for a Tahoe, Yep.

When you take your car to a shop either privately owned or a chain store, you are getting the parts from us.

Guys on this site are not perfect either. How many times have you seen brakes spelled as breaks?

I totally know what you are talking about. I worked at a NAPA that a friend owns for several years and I absolutely refused to work the front counter (retail) because I couldn't deal with some of the "customers" that came in the front door. Some of these people had no idea what they were doing and would try to return one part after another trying to troubleshoot some problem and then get all sideways when you wouldn't take a scarfed up greasy part back. It's scary that some of these idiots are trying to fix their own cars, especially brakes and fuel systems.

No, they're just to stupid and lazy to pay any attention to what they're doing and typing of what they are trying to say. It really shows a large lack of intelligence on their part!

Been dealing with the local NAPA store near me for 40+ years. Both of the owners still work there and both are into old cars, and most of the time have what I need. My father walked in and asked for a front pair of brake shoes for a 51 Chev and they asked how many he wanted.......Good guys to deal and talk with.....

Every A zone I've been to is full of young idiots or people that should never be allowed to reproduce.... me- need wipers for my wife's car 05 Maxima... Automatic or standard? I need a headlight for 02 Ram 2500.... is it 4x4?.... Needed a 71" belt....what's it go on, me- it doesnt matter....az- i need a vehicle.... Try to explain that the measurement is on the belt, az- i need vehicle... Ok its a 68 mustang w/ a 351w with a March serpentine setup.... Ummm I don't see a 351w for a 68.... Me- choke the s$!t out of the guy go to the old NAPA that's been around since the 60's get the belt in less than 3 minutes....take the belt back to az let them know they are dumb asses!
No offense intended to SteveSS, same thing happens at some of the other parts houses.... It seems most are filled with young kids that only know how to bolt on neon and fart can exhaust...

Back in the 80's, I walked into a Chevy dealer parts room and asked for a set of smallblock chevy valve covers and they asked me what year!

I can say when I was younger, I was inpatient with parts guys most of the time. As most of them had to plow through two or more books to find what I was asking for. Some were just hopeless. Then there were these old guys, that you just told them, the make the engine and what you wanted, and they walked in the back, and came out with what you needed. You have to admit, the cars they deal with on an everyday bases are newer, in our case forty five years older. Most of then never heard of a Belveder, let alone seen one. The systems the designs, and even the requirements all have changed on the newer cars. I shop NAPA, as the one I patronize have older men, who for the most part know what I'm looking for. Have patience with these people. You just might make another Mopar enthusiast.

I have a Tremec 5-spd in my 70 Road Runner. Same trans as in a Cobra Mustang. Went to a Ford dealer to get a tailshaft seal. "What car is it going in?" I told him it didn't matter, it is the same transmission as a certain year Cobra. "But what car do you have?" We went back and forth a few times, then I finally said "I have a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner". He said rolled his eyes and said "The Chrysler dealer is next door". I told him again that yeah, it is a Plymouth, but it has the same transmission as the Mustang. He said it wouldn't matter, they don't sell parts for Plymouths.

I found another dealer.

I'd go back and kick that guy in the dick.
