Hello to all.i was driving to my friends house a couple of miles away.i got on freeway and the car started making a high whinding noise like a semi truck changing gears.tranny is nice and pink.full level on dip stick.it was running fine with the high whind when accelerateing.gears were shifting.can i get some help on diagnosing this matter.thanks so much.

Need to narrow the diagognostic process down. Was it trans, rear gear or tire noise???????
Can you record while driving and post it,,,,maybe you tube?

Also does it change when you accelerate or let off the gas. Also You can manually shift the transmission thru the gears to see if it changes tone in any particular gear.

Its a high whinding. Noise.like a semi truck changing gears.coming from the motor or trans.but it still changes gears. .it sounds like when you first start a cold engine.

When i let off the gas accelerator it stops the noise.when i go slow like 10mph it doesnt make noise.i havent tried to change gears. Im at work.keep t coming.i appreciate The advice trans fluid is good anf full pink.

hey guys, latest update its not coming from the tranny its coming from the motor.someone told me maybe its the vacum from the carb, its a 4 barrel carter, because i noticed it sounded the same way as if you are cold starting the motor in the morning, and then when you hit the gas pedal the motor kicks down, so i will trouble shoot from the car.any suggestions are appreciated thanks so much.

Try to find the leak by ear.If that doesn't work, carb cleaner used with short shots by the carb{S} intake and brake booster if you use one.A stethoscope is a hany tool in my box.

Is it more of a whistle than a whine? I used a single hole base carb gasket under my Edelbrock carb once (instead of a 4-hole gasket) and it whistled. When I replaced it with a 4-holer it went away.

++it sounds like a vacum cleaner ,like a diesel truck in first gear, it goes away for a minute, then i hear it again,,

A wedge with a tray is a PIA to find without removng the intake.Unless you have a smoke machine.
I also highly recommend SUPERPERFORMACE gaskets.Best I have ever used!!

another words, the sound is just like starting up a cold v 8 engine in the morning

update,,i dont know if its the problem, but there is a bolt on the torque converter that is backed out 1/4 inch.if its not the problem i am glad it will be tightened.

First of all I wanted to tell the wonderful people on. B bodies only that i really appreciate the valuable info that I needed , because it is really excellent top notch info, and members.i found the problem its a failing brake booster I did the brake. Booster tests and it failed.but i still drove it around the block a few times and it didn't make the hydraulic sound ,which was the Brake booster,i wish I could buy a round of drinks at the bar,wow imagine how much info would be discussed, lol, thanks again to all, until next time ,cheers.
