I was wondering if any body has ever used a Howard cam before, and if so what kind of luck have you had.

Welcome to the forum. I have not used a Howard cam before sorry

put a #720141-12 in an engine i put together last year. unfortunately the engine has sit and i probably won't use it. that being said i found thru running the lobes thru a degree wheel to be accurate and finish was good. the advance that was ground into the cam was way off by 6 degrees. basically had 10 degrees of advance ground into it.

I haven't used any Howards cam for 30+ years now

good luck

if you have bought a cam from Hughes engines in the last 4 or 5 yr, its probably a Howards cam.

bought a hydraulic roller from Hughes 2 yrs ago, it was black label Howards.

coincidentally, it was defective.

sent it back to Hughes, they sent it back to Howards, and thats how i found out about it.

i tryed out a Howards Rattler in a SBF in my truck recently, i didnt care for it much, pulled it out for a Lunati 2 hrs later

Never tried a Howards cam before, but I just got a Lunati solid roller, and it is working real nice. The cam card even said that when the 106 degree ICL is reached, the cam will be 4 degrees advanced. I checked it, and it was at 105. Prob my error of 1 degree. I think Lunati is one of the few grinders that have their own manufacturing plant. Correct me if I'm wrong. It's in Mississippi. And their tech line was very helpful.

Interesting factiod, my 440 Lunati voodoo roller was made in Mississippi, the Voodoo roller in my SBF 306 was growned by Comp Cams black label...crazy. two cam cards in the Lunati box, one with a Lunati Job # by Comp

I have a flat solid in a 440.

It made 629HP and pulls all the way to 7000 nice. As for running down the track I have yet to put it in. It's a back up motor to my work horse stroker.
