Should I be concerned about the way this crank looks?

This is in my 440 that came in the car. I took these photos when I removed the pan to replace the leaky rear main seal. How does the crank look to you?

Looks like a stock crank to me. Just had mine apart over the winter and that's what mine looked like. Rough manchine work but should not be in contact with anything.
 
check you crank end play, push crank forward and back word should have .004-.006 clearance. if there's excessive end play check your thrust bearing wear.though I've seen cranks with that kind of counter weight factory rough machining
 
Only if that's fresh wear (the shiny area) from rubbing which would mean you have a problem.
 
Factory. The counter weight machining isn't pretty. Big deal. Can't tell anything about condition without disassembly.

If your thrust bearing don't look imbedded in the rear of the journal, no "shinny stuff" in the bottom of the pan, and oil pressure is good, I'd say you're just fine.

I'm no engine master either, but I would think if those marks where caused by the crank making contact with the block, you would not be asking if it where normal. The engine would have been complaining loudly and you'd have known long ago that it was not normal.
 
Well, that's a big relief to know. You learn something everyday about these cars if you're curious enough.

I used to be a machinist and I thought the arching scrape looked like a machine tool made it as it was being pulled out after a cut. I've seen rough surfaces like that when I had a broken or dull bit in a tool. But I never would have thought the cranks left the manufacturer with a finish as rough as that.

Doh!! (face palm). I didn't check the end play before I put the pan back on. It doesn't make any unusual noises. The block was rebuilt by the previous owner; you can still see crosshatching in the bores.
